I'd have to reserve judgment till I saw it but yeah it does seem kind of strange to have a black human torch. Alicia Masters didn't bother me but I would like to see how this guy embodied the torch.

I hate all black and brown people too, but the problem is, most of these Marvel characters were made in the 40's-60's when minorities were not allowed because they were stupid and ugly.

Unfortunately, what Hollywood studios care more about then our awesome petty racial tendencies, is making money. To do that well, you need to diversify your cast. I agree, that is not easy to do, and it often seems awkward. Nick Fury? Meh, no one really cared. I've heard of Black Panther as a possibility but I'm sure that will scare some of you.

Rumors are getting more and more solid

Black Panther is so badass. It seems like such a no brainer to get him involved in the Avengers movies asap.

Iron Man 3 made almost a billion dollars worldwide in its first 4 days. Billion.

I agree there has been some misses, but until they all start missing, they arent going anywhere.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have already been pretty much confirmed.

BP is more like Cap where he has enhanced abilities. He brings more to the table as he is king of an entire country and

Don't take me for a hater. I have no problem with black actors playing parts that have traditionally been depicted as white. I had no problem with Mos Def as Ford Prefect in Hitchhiker's Guide. I had no problem with Idrs Elba as Heimdall in Thor. I will have no problem with this guy as the torch if he does a good job in the role.
(I don't think the family thing is much of a problem at all. One or both could be adopted. Could have different mothers or different fathers, etc. etc.). It certainly wouldn't be the most unusual thing about that family.

To me the torch is young, impetuous, a bit immature, but basically a good and heroic person. He is supposed be something of an expert at mechanics (though that is not always made clear). If this actor can carry that off, I don't mind him as the torch at all. The guy they had in the first movies did a pretty good job in my estimation but it can definitely be improved upon.

why jump through hoops when you have a character like Ben Grimm that can easily be black and not affect the story?

I did. A freakin black Norseman

I will

Won't watch it and neither will thousands of fans.
It will make no sense or cents.

And I'm not a racist either.

A Norse god. He doesn't have to share the same skin tone as the people that worship him. There was nothing wrong with Idris Elba playing that role.

he kinda does. the Norse would never worship a Moorish-looking god.

PC must trump logic and tradition for some reason

Except that he was Sif's brother in the comics.
Sorry, didn't see the resemblance. I believe in continuity. Obviously Marvel forgot what that is.

Dude just because I think a black human torch and white sue storm is stupid doesn't mean I'm racist. It's people like you in this country...

Anyways, why not make the black panther or falcon white or hispanic? No said Wakanda had to be black, it can just be country where he is king. (which you know, might be more profitable if Hollywood did that)

Nick Fury

clearly based on the ultimates version.

I wouldn't have a problem with the Falcon or Panther being white. As long as it's well done I'm happy. If Marvel feels that the have a woeful shortage of white characters, I'm sure they would consider doing this.

I thought Heimdall came out pretty cool in the Thor move. Certainly didn't deter me from seeing it.

There were well-known black superheroes created in the 60's and 70's.

Marvel

Black Panther
Goliath
The Falcon
Storm
War Machine
Luke Cage
Blade

DC

Black Lightning
Bumblebee
Bronze Tiger
Green Lantern (John Stewart)

A bunch more came out in the 80s and 90s though.

Cyborg
Steel

EDIT: Scruffy was shamed by Murray.

Sure, but changing a pretty significant character and that character's story may not be the best way to go about it.

One thing that I've learned over the years is that comic book fans want accuracy. Making Johnny an adopted sibling to Sue or half-brother just for the sake of "racial diversity" is pretty dumb, IMO.

Also, blacks aren't exactly the crowd that buys comic books.
quote:

Black Panther
Awesome character. Kinda like Marvel's version of Batman.

I always figured they would add him to the Avengers. The current problem is having too many of the same "type" of character in the same movie. Black Panther is a lot like Capt. America, as far as fighting abilities go.

I still think they kill off Iron Man in Avengers 2 and he gets replaced by War Machine....who is black.
