I'd never even heard of the characters until this movie.
Of course I'd never even heard of Guardians of the Galaxy before the first movie and it was a huge box office success.
I'll wait and see how things fit, before I judge it.

The Eternals aren't a big brand name, but not because they're weak. They supposedly could mop the floor with the Avengers and anyone who's been up against them; but they're unknown because they haven't been in the fights.

They haven't been in the fights, because they're working under the orders of the Celestials, who again, could mop the floor with the Eternals.

We've seen hints and pieces on the Celestials, but other than a floating dead head in space (Knowhere), a 1 second video of one wiping a planet out (shown by the Collector in GOTG), and a dubious claim by Ego, they're not in play yet.

I forget my Marvel Kirby dogma, but wouldn't the presence of the Celestials suggest Galactus might be around the corner, and thus the Fantastic Four? Isn't Galactus at least on the same scale as the Celestials?

It will be interesting to see if they can go with this concept. The MCU has always been relatable people, while in this, humans are basically ants in comparison (and civilizations are basically ant farms). That's a deep dive.

This is currently the lowest score for an MCU film

It's even lower than that. They scrubbed hundreds of 1 star reviews, claiming they were anti-gay trolls, but they left in almost 800 10/10 reviews from people who hadn't seen the movie, per the "way back machine."

So yeah, it was review-bombed, very much to the upside - and it still has this awful score. Usually, critics fellate the woke movies. How bad must this suck for them to cut and run now.

Same reason you watch SC football. Eventually they might get good again.

I partially agree with the 2nd part of that. At least longer breaks in between every project. But people definitely are not sick of MCU. This is getting bad reviews and its coming out at a time where movies arent making as much money but this is still going to rake in the cash. You could put a cape on a turd and as long as its labeled MCU, people are going to see it.

Scale as in power or height? Galactus has taken on several celestials at once. The celestials did fuse together to eventually take him down. Pretty sure it's commonplace to assume Galactus is more powerful across the board.

Height wise the celestials it seems their heights vary based on abilities or position with the hierarchy of celestials and their roles. Exitar is said to be 20,000 feet tall while most of the other are around 2,000 feet.

Galactus is listed at only 28 ft tall but he's always portrayed as being much taller so his height basically scales based on power or the size of the plant he's consuming.

Galactus should be around the corner, yes.

I've always disliked the naming conventions on these characters being some kind of bastardization of mythological characters.

Oh, I know. We'll take Cersei and call her Sersi. Ajax will be Ajak. Athena will just be Thena. It's like a 5th grader making their first character sheet for D&D.

Clever! I know it dates way back to early comic books, but it's just always annoyed me. . The Eternals are similar to the Inhumans in my mind. When I was a huge comic nerd, I really dug reading graphic novels and compendiums featuring their storylines, but I don't think they're really cinema material.

Yeah, I mean, there's a reason that these comics or characters never really became household names. I was hoping that this film would "fill the gaps" in the storytelling and give substantial backstory on the cosmic side of things. Most of these characters don't need to carry on and I really can't see why there would need to be a trilogy of films dedicated to them or anything like that.

If the reviews are mixed at this point it makes sense based on the lack of knowledge from the viewer standpoint. As long as it lays out the overall cosmic arc that is coming our way then I will be satisfied. Not all of the MCU films are homeruns but as we can see with a movie like Age of Ultron - which is very divisive among MCU fans - that even though overall the film might not be top tier, it can have some serious ramifications down the line.

I thought Celestials were generally more powerful. Either way probably not a big difference except there are numerous Celestials.

I’ve never seen him portrayed as that small.

This. It's been like a long run of cotton candy. Brilliant when you first try it as a kid, but if you eat to much of it it makes you sick. And you don't want much of it at all as an adult.

I've watched a good bit of these movies and liked quite a lot of them. Winter Soldier, Ragnarok, Iron Man, GOTG....but at some point, enough is enough.

Frankly I don't limit this to Marvel. The DC verse has been pretty terrible on the whole--but it's all in the same vein. Hopefully this is the phase where it all peters out and we get a little more diversity in our movie watching options.

Its starting to feel like we’re reeeeeaaaplly scraping the bottom of the barrel in the Marvel Universe…

GOTG was an out of no where hit, but how many times can you take completely unheard of characters and get a win?

ETA: I agree with everyone else who is going to wait and see this on D+. No reason to go to a theater for this movie.

Yeah, me neither, so I looked it up and was kinda shook tbh. I always figured he was at least 1000 ft but there are times he's portrayed as 10's of 1,000's of feet tall.

Galactus really oughta be hundreds of miles tall if he has to eat planets to survive. Even at 10k feet, that’s just an ordinary mountain.

Indie Writer/Director can’t handle major franchise film. Where have I have seen that before? RJ and TLJ. They don’t have the skill set to handle these massive films in massive franchises. You need the visionary guys like the Russos, or Favs, or Filonis of the world. Or hell. Straight up comic/fantasy nerds.

I’ll make my own judgment though.

He doesn’t actually eat a planet.

Universal owns the distribution rights to a solo Hulk film. So not going to happen.

Yeah yeah I know. He consumes all the life energy or whatever from a planet. Still overkill if he isn’t actually that huge.
