Which X-Men?

Let me holler at my boy Feige and get back with you.

No clue, man. I could list a ton that I would like to see but I would imagine they'll slow roll the mutants into the MCU/MCM. I think we all know which ones that we'll probably see early on that will draw at the BO- Prof. X, Wolverine, Magneto, Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey, etc, etc....

I hate that the X-Men are coming into the mcu so late in its existence because I really would like an OG style X-Men movie. I feel like it doesn't really fit in currently though.

I would like to see them have several films separate from the rest of the MCU. Like how they did it with the Guardians.

I believe it is establish that "Thor" is just a title and now that he is the ruler of ASgard he will have to pass the Thor mantle on to someone and he do that by recreating the same hammer he had before. Jane will be worthy while "Thor" will be known by his true name, Odinson.

Now as for Eternal, the director use a chinese style call "Xanxia" film making, which is a genre that is akin to fantasy but more fantastical. Pretty much it has that dreamy "super power human using reality bending ablities" as part of its genre. That genre fyi is very popular in China and if you want some example just watch some of the Chinese series offering or movies on Netflix for examples.

That is why the audience didn't "get" it. Its a big cultural tone shift in movie making. And as offend is the case in Chinese xanxia stand alone movies, it is not as coherent for western audiences and jarring canonically.

They knocked it out of the park with Shang Chi.

It was good but not even close to a tier 1 mcu movie

Their biggest problem is that all the new main avengers characters are boring as shite

I'm just hoping we finally get a good Gambit on screen that properly represents the Southern Louisiana culture

It has looked awful since its first trailer but I just figured no matter how bad it was, it was going to get good reviews. Im pretty surprised.

My co-workers and friends who aren't comic book nerds are saying they were burnt out with the TV shows. These are the people that make the money for these movies. Their knowledge of comic books are cartoons when they were kids and these movies. Disney isn't going to keep sending these movies to production just for the hardcore comic people.

im not a comic book reader and Im not burnt out on the shows, they even got me excited for multiverse based movies. they aren't just for hardcore people altho they do have easter eggs for hardcores to rave about. mileage may vary, I think the shows are a gap bridge until a slew of movies upcoming are out, then in the next lull of movies well see more shows out.

Also they haven't done this yet but if they use these multi-verses to bring characters back to life viewership will plummet. When no death or triumph holds any value people will stray.

IDK if thats as big a deal as you suggest. see infinity war and endgame, they killed off half and brought them back in their biggest movie saga. with the multiverse it doesnt mean that new storyline cant have death and triumph...at some point they will rectify the multiverse with some type of consequences setting up for the next stage of movies.

Ah yes the crumbling of Disney's superhero movie run. Most of us figured it would happen after Endgame. I only see Spiderman and Guardians movies doing well for the foreseeable future.

Dude stop. They still have Blade coming back, Dr Strange plus Black Panther will do ok even with the sad loss of Boseman.

They will have some other misses but they will be fine.

Eternals always looked uninteresting.

No surprise. The Eternals was always going to be a niche - not tied to the big MCU finale that just passed. Not nearly the built-in fan base. Too many characters in an early "team" film. I liked some of the casting decisions, but there was always the potential for MCU swoon after Endgame.

We have arrived.

Where did you read that the director used this style? Chloe Zhao has exclusively made low-budget, American indie films set in the American West. She made one 10 minute short film in Chinese 10 years ago. I haven't seen in any review that she used any xanxia or wuxia-influenced techniques, and she has literally never employed such techniques or even worked in fantasy or genre filmmaking before this.

I very much doubt that critics are not liking Eternals because it has similarities to The Mermaid, Journey to the West, Detective Dee, or other huge Chinese fantasy blockbusters. I often wonder why marvel hires the directors they do just to neuter their respective styles, but hiring an indie drama director to direct something so far outside both the director's and Marvel's wheelhouses would be ridiculous. So ridiculous that I don't believe it's true.

You have to introduce a ton of characters and come up with a interesting plot in a typical movie time slot, that is a pretty tall task. Every other marvel movie introduced characters slowly and brought them together later. I am sure a bunch of origin story is part to blame without actually seeing it.

We have Captain America who has multiple references to LSU, crawfish, the bayou, and life in Louisiana. I don't need a caricature of Louisiana that Gambit has often been portrayed as.

Collected Marvel comics when I was a kid and I can't tell you one thing about the Eternal’s other than Thanos was kind of one (Deviant, I belive) and they have something to do with the Cellesetials.

I think I only knew of them because I read those Marvel Universe books when I was a kid. I think two of them were members of The Avengers at different times. They’re pretty generic super-powered extras.

You mentioned the Celestials; I’m surprised the MCU hasn’t gotten more into them after the teaser with the floating head.

I'd never even heard of the characters until this movie.
Of course I'd never even heard of Guardians of the Galaxy before the first movie and it was a huge box office success.
