I just recently came across the opening monologue where Norm McDonald returned and roasted the show. It was perfection. It’s hard to find a video of it. I wonder if they tried to erase it from existence.

No. Comcast is just draconian about putting NBC/Universal stuff on YouTube. They want you to use their own site.

I may be wrong, but I suspect Norm speaks for many former cast members.

We laughed at some parts. There are two kinds of SNL hosts... entertainers who are supposed to look semi-professional in the skits, and public figures who are supposed to look semi-awkward in the skits (Ed Koch, Ralph Nader). Musk is a lunatic from outer space, and he looked awesomely awkward in every skit. Not the best episode ever, but not the train wreck I was expecting.

Not sure who boycotted the show, because every cast member seemed to be there.

You know, this Weekend Update would be more funny if this wasn’t just a complete bashing of Republicans, Christians and White people.

How about they take equal shots? This is painfully biased.

About the only Weekend Update bits I like these days are the joke swaps.

Elon acts exactly like you would expect an alien to behave if he were wearing a human costume.

Same for Zuckerbot.

I'm convinced that once you reach a certain amount of wealth, you forget how to human.

To me he looked exceptionally awkward in his monologue, but then he actually seemed semi-comfortable in the skits (relatively speaking).

I watched most of the skits on youtube today and I thought Elon was as good as anyone on the skits. He was awkward on a couple of them but the skits themselves were really terrible and unfunny, as is most of the show these days. The only thing they seem to have going for them these days is Weekend Update with Jost and Che. The rest of the cast is just terrible.

Agreed. Their Christmas joke swap on Weekend Update back in December 2020 is the first thing I've laughed at in quite some time.

Has weekend update always been about half of the show or are they increasing the runtime for it because everything else sucks?

Jost and Che seem to have chewed up a good chunk of the show now unlike Miller/ Macdonald/Neelen. Out of 16 skit playlist on youtube, 2 were Miley Cyrus, 7 were skits and 5 were WU then the monologue and Miley doing a song up front.

To answer your question though, yes, it is most likely due to it being the only funny thing they have going at the moment.

Is no one really giving any credit to Elon given his Asperger's? For him being so hyper-focused on certain aspects of life & then to still try to go up on SNL (we know it's not for the money. if nothing else, it came off to me at least, that he did it because he's trying to prove something for people like him. I watched his skits with that lens of knowing he's not "normal" & all things considered - he pulled it off.

Add to that how hilarious it is that super liberal woke leftists like SNL cast would openly & adamantly refuse to work with someone with a condition like his. I'd really like them/the left to be eaten by their own.

Well, seems I'm not the only one who came up with the idea ...

Apparently even Michael Che admitted the show bombed over a skit he personally wrote, and it was the opening sketch. Seriously the show was in reverse order with the funniest (which is to say a light chuckle at one point) was the last sketch and the worst was the cold opening. Yahoo

I’m reading the comments of the Mother’s Day Cold Open, and everyone’s saying how cute it was. This is kindergarten levels of writing. Seriously, that’s what 5 year olds come up with to thank their mothers on Mother’s Day, not what full grown adults do. Last I checked this was supposed to be a comedy show not a feel good show. Seriously, most churches could produce a sketch as funny as that, but at least they’re honest that it’s about spiritual fulfillment and not comedy.

I heard a good bit of the intro , and it came off very well. Maybe sticking to the basics is something they should look into ?

I know their egos won't allow them to sink to such levels, but if they can't see that over thinking comedy isn't working, then they're clearly on the wrong path.

That is not comedy at all, dude. Seriously you could find that skit in a Pentecostal Church, people not all that well known for their humor. Save for the fricking funeral they put on for Hillary after she lost, this is just definitive Woke Church.

You’re spending a lot of time on a show you don’t like.

Save for the last time Chapelle hosted, I haven’t watched it in well over a year.
