I really hope Tom Hardy's character wasn't Jewish.

Gotcha. So who took that German plane down? Tom hardy's engines were already shut down at that point.

Good movie. I liked it a lot. Beautiful to watch, great score as always, tightly paced.
Didn't blow me away, though. I disagree with people calling it Nolan's masterpiece or his best movie yet. JMO

Well done, different, and clever in spots.

I was hoping that was it. That makes Tom Hardy even more of a badass.

Yeah, that was a little over the top but one of those Stukas needed a good stitching by rule 303.
Rule 303

I know nothing about those fighter planes used, im assuming they can't fire off rounds with the engines down? While watching it I just thought the gunfire wasn't dependent on the engines or maybe it had a manual mode

He was really good in this. His eyes when he was bingo fuel but that HE-111 was headed for that destroyer - that was very good.

Nah. Robin Olds shot down an ME-109 when he was dead sticked in a P-38.
"What the Hell. I shot any way."
At the 12:00 mark.

The technology of the day had electric power going to the guns from the aircraft's generator/battery. Of course once the electric solenoid trips the sear, the guns will fire on their own.
A Spitfire from a Polish squadron.

I thought it showed his engines shut-down (from the ground view), then he switched to "reserve" and took out the German plan before landing.

Nolan had cuts in time and space back and forth - it wasn't a straight narrative story. Seems to me like he cut in a reserve to shoot what appeared to be a second HE-111. And then somehow shot the Stuka while he was dead sticked.
HE-111

This isn't World War I. The guns fired from the wings in WWII.

The POV shooting from the wing root was very similar to a lot of the shots in 'Interstellar'.

Early P-40's had .30 cal MGs firing through the prop spinner.
And 4 X .50 cals in the wings.

I miss catchy scores instead of ones that have a constant hum of dread the entire time.
