Movie is an absolute masterpiece, but upon rewatch it really stuck with me how influential this movie was for the rest of the decade. The neon colors, the electro pop soundtrack, insane violence. This movie was the start of a particular style that lasted all of the 2010s in film. But you know how certain movies kind of embodies the era it was made in? Well enough time has passed from the early 2010s that I think it’s safe to say that Drive is the movie that embodies that brief time period of 2010-2014. The style, the music, everything about it takes me back to 2011. Not only an amazing movie, but an amazing time capsule of the not too distant past.

Never watched it. Probably cause I can’t stand Ryan Gosling. He’s annoying as shite.

I just watched Drive back in the fall for the first time. I really like it a lot. I'm not sure how I missed it when it came out

You know this movie was a riff on 80's films, right?

Of course! But the 2010s pop culture in general was heavily 80s inspired, especially during the electro pop era of the early 2010s.

It suckered in 80s kids.

Great first viewing. Nostalgia is powerful.

Sucks on rewatch. Just not a decent story.

The first 10 minutes are a masterpiece... The rest of the film... Well... Let's just say it's a bad ripoff of Thief.

Never seen a character make a point about not caring about anything, but have perfectly manicured hair every scene.

Great movie. One of the best of its decade

It’s peak Refn before he got a little too into his own style and lost any form of substance to his movies

He basically just stands around looking handsome and not saying a damn thing the whole movie, with the occasional action driving or fight scene.

I don't know how you could find him annoying in this one, try watching it.

if you hate ryan gosling than this is the perfect movie to watch him in because he has about 8 lines of dialogue and 0 personality.

agreed. but I do normally like Gossling. Remember the Titans, Crazy Stupid Love, Fracture, Ides of March, Nice Guys, and First Man were all great performances.

He’s a great actor, I’ll add the Big Short to that list. He’s like the opposite of his Drive character in that

It's not even the best movie of the 2010s with the word Drive in it :P

You think it has to do with the folks with the power these days (writers and/or directors) are those that came of age in the ‘80s when all those things were prevalent?

Go to the toy section at Walmart, and you’ll see “classic” toys are back...the toys ‘80s kids grew up with, which are the people with kids these days.

Nostalgia sells.

I think that has more to do with Stranger Things than Drive
