I know a guy who has a reaction YouTube channel. Or at least he used to. He swore to me none of it was fake. I didn’t believe him. His name is Alex Hefner. Has a few hundred thousand followers and I never understood why.

The ones where our urban friends listen to stuff like the Bee Gees, Queen or "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins allegedly for the first time are always amusing.

I went down a rabbit hole a while back watching their reactions to Blazing Saddles. The younger they are, the more shocked and uncomfortable they are with some of the language and that made me

They're all fake.

Watch the girl from "Charismatic Voice". It's so over the top obtuse, it's comical.

She’s one of the ones I’ve seen. Can’t stand her. She was doing one on Chris Cornell and seemed like she was actually criticizing him while pretending she never heard of him. Ridiculous.

Yea I saw that.

She did one on ELO while claiming she had never heard "Mr. Blue Sky".

I first came across reaction videos with this dude named NoLifeShaq (I think), and he was pretty funny. But he got tired to me so I moved on.

There is a group called the Cartier Family and it's a group of young black dudes who go to ULL. I watched a good bit of their stuff because I liked their vibe and they were local. But then they started reacting to more and more political shite and less music so I sort of tuned out.

I currently check out Black Pegasus sometimes, but I've found that I do it more so I can just listen to the music than anything else. I often times don't really care what the reactor has to say about it.

And of course most of the "first time ever!!" reactions are bullshite. There can't be many people alive in the 90s who have never heard Metallica or Phil Collins. Even if you don't like that kind of music, that shite was ubiquitous back then.

So to answer the OP, I do check it out sometimes, but knowing that it's not really their first time and mainly just because I like the music they choose.

Yeah, they were track dudes at ULL. The one dude is always high as a kite.

He’s good. I’ve watched him quite a bit in the past. He’ll go down full rabbit holes with artists. He did Ren and NF if I remember correctly.

I watch a few movie reactors because they're entertaining and it's fun getting new perspectives on movies I've seen before.

I've had this idea to do reviews of actual good B movies and shlock. I don't like the "so bad they're good" type of movies that RLM and a few others do, but there are plenty of great low budget action and horror movies out there that I legitimately enjoy. I don't exactly have a face or personality to be in front of a camera though

I think the thing I like about him is he'll say he's heard a song before, or parts of it, but has never actually stopped and listened to it. Or he may say he remembers the hook but nothing else. I guess in a way he at least seems fairly genuine usually.

But again, I find myself FFWDing through a lot of what he says and think I just more like hearing the music itself most of the time.

IIRC, I think I discovered him one day when I went on a deep Harry Mack youtube dive.

Pretty much the same. I'm usually there for the music and instead of just listening, get a different perspective on it.

Another channel I've watched is the Lost in Vegas guys. Sometimes the one dude can be a bit off-putting, but overall they seem genuine and don't pretend to be shocked and never heard of any artist type idiocy.

She at least provides some actual insight from a vocal mechanical perspective. No way she hasnt heard most of these songs but I enjoy her vids. I couldnt believe she did Mayonaise by Smashing Pumpkins which is one of my fav songs

I legit saw one where the guy was reacting to “some girl named A-day-lay”(Adele). In 2024 he had never heard of Adele.

Some folks watch scripted "reality TV", I watch reaction vids. It started way back with sports events - Kick 6, as the all timer, but then evolved to folks discovering "old" stuff on streaming.

I have doubts on many claims of "first time" watching, and some will fess up and admit having seen things years ago, when they were young and didn't really know what they were watching, but there's something for everyone.

Rewatched a few series too. Damn, there's some good stuff back in the day.

No we have a life. Seriously, when did society get so bored where people actually enjoy watching some lonely random person videoing themselves watching a movie

Probably prior to you signing up for an account on TD and picking the username "BradHawpe".

Fake reaction video checklist:

Surrender Cobra
Jaw drop
Pause and repeat the words hold up hold up
Make a face that looks like you’re smelling shite which expresses the idea that something is “nasty” in a complementary form

The genre of these I seem to gravitate towards are the music videos and my all-time favorite is the one of Bobby Hatfield singing solo on the old "Andy Williams Show" back in 65.

Hatfield is one of the Righteous Brothers, a duet team of him and Bill Medley who made music often labeled "Blue Eyed Soul".

He sang "Unchained Melody" live on that show in 65 and it was just the man, his mic, the studio band and an audience stunned to silence.

To me, it is arguably one of the finest examples of live music ever produced and stuns first-time listeners to this day.

It seems like every video my wife sends me has some split screen random fat person pasted over it and shitty laugh effects or songs dubbed in it
