Yes, of course. I also buy the first class seat next to me on those rare occasions when I fly commercial.

Theaters are rarely full if you don't go on opening night. This is rarely a problem.

Yeah. I think I've had a stranger next to me once in the last couple of years. Just go off peak and pick the seats from the chart. My AMC is all recliner/stadium style, so it's not a huge deal if you do happen to have someone nearby.
And I'm a weirdo who will sometimes go by myself.

I've only been to a movie theater once since the Covid shutdowns (Maverick) but I thought packed theaters were a thing of the past. Even Maverick wasn't so packed that I had to worry about a stranger sitting next to me.

Movie theaters are for trashy people so it seems like a good idea if I actually went to watch movies in a shitty theater

Never have. When my best friend/roommate when I first graduated college, and I, went to a movie we always left a space between us. Remember one time he told everyone we were saving that seat. Once he saw the theater was going to be completely full, he relented, and quit lying on the sixth or seventh person that asked. Pretty sure it was for Pulp Fiction. He'd seen it on Friday night. Talked me into going to see it on Saturday afternoon.
I was glad we went!

The last packed theater I was in was for Endgame. Since then, I wait until the theater is sparsely populated and go in the middle of the day. One of my favorite things is a theater to myself. Saw Maverick this past week at 3 pm on a weekday...four people in the theater.
I would consider buying the extra seat on $5 Tuesday though.
