Do you find the animation in The Polar Express (2004) to be really weird looking?

Very much so and it's the main reason that I don't ever rewatch it.

Yeah.. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with that

great movie though, wife started the tradition with my kids for whatever reason years ago and to this day the movie still moves me.
we watch it the night we put up the tree.

Yeah, I like the story. I love the music. Tom Hanks is great with the 78 characters he plays in the movie.
But the animation, it makes the movie hard to rewatch.

It's definitely the best showcase of the odd uncanny valley effect in animation.

Not a fan at all. Definitely pushes the movie down the list of must Christmas movies

They remake video games with updated graphics all the time, they should do it for The Polar Express

Polar we press I believe was made with very early motion capture technology by zemeckis. That's why it looks so bad.
Motion capture now looks far better, A la Thanos.
But that early stuff had some really weird speech movements especially.

One of my favorite go to Christmas movies is A Christmas Carol. When the CGI edition came out several years ago I was OK with it because they exaggerated the facial features enough where you didn't get that effect.

I don't have a problem with it

As soon as that first test video came back, someone should've spoken up.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. That movie is ridiculously creepy.

I did, and I do. But that's part of its charm.
At first it was kinda like, this is another dimension sorta thing.

With the exception of Pixar most CGI does not age well at all. It's shelf life is way quicker because of how fast computer technology grows. Shame because Polar Express is a great movie but damn those cgi kids look creepy af now.

Feels like I'm watching one long cut scene from a video game.

I did at first, but not any more. Very good movie, pretty unique, and the kids love it.
