You also have a bunch of estrogen filled men in Hollywood who don't know how to laugh at themselves and are worse than a woman on the rag when it comes to humor.

I agree with the thread. But The Wrong Missy (Netflix) last year was pretty damn funny.

Weird Al is a good watch. It was way funnier than I expected

Seems like the successful comedies these days are mostly big productions. Jumanji re-boot and Free Guy are two relatively recent comedies I enjoyed but had a massive budget/production.

1.) The crash of the dvd/blu ray market, the cost to market films going up astronomically.
2.) The shrinking domestic box office and the pivot toward blockbuster centric investments with studios. Original comedies cost decent money and all but the biggest don’t make huge ROI compared to a Jumanji or Jurrasic World or Marvel film.
3.) Streaming… Films like Palm Springs, Bad Trip, Eurovision, Adam Sandler films, Borat 2, Jackass Forever, Confess Fletch, Vacation Friends, Kevin Hart stuff, Weird Al would have been major theatrical releases 10 years ago, and probably one or two would have done pretty well relatively speaking, but today they have deals with streaming and go directly there, or very quickly after a limited release.
The comedies(if you can even call them that) that seem to get funded and widely released are more multi-genre like Deadpool, Jumanji, and Free Guy. Films that are comedies but also action/adventure and fit that “event” movie ROI.

Sharks plus Tornadoes seems cheesy.

Just rewatched Weekend at Bernies for the first time in years. Laughed at the absurdity all the way through. ??

This is the exact answer.
The last good old fashion comedy that didn’t try to teach me any lessons or lecture me that I can remember was “Vacation Friends.”
Hell, we saw Marry Me and just because there hasn’t been a romantic comedy since before Covid. It wasn’t good but it was nice to have a normal romantic comedy. Lost City too. There was another one with Sam Clafin and a Mexican actress where she reinterprets his tragic book into a raunchy romance novel. That was fine.
ETA: it’s been 2 years almost but Palm Springs was a really great one. Highly recommend.

The People We Hate at the Wedding just came out and it’s raunchy and funny

They're both heavily dedicated to being a genre so both the style and popularity come in cycles.

I expect Cocaine Bear to overachieve here in a few months
