How many of you remember the Disney movie Mighty Joe Young? It came out in the late 90’s, and starred Bill Paxton, Charlize Theron, Regina King, and others. I watched it on Disney Plus last night for the first time in many years and really enjoyed watching it again after so long. The effects are awesome and Joe is so life-like, it’s hard to believe he’s not a real-life gorilla, albeit a giant one lol.

What are your thoughts on this underrated Disney movie?

This shows you how good my memory is. I went to the theater with the choice to either see Mighty Joe Young or Star Trek: Insurrection, and I chose Star Trek.

The person who designed that poster was a hack. The Paxton photoshop is blatant even by late 90s standards.

First time I saw Theron and my first thought was that we had another Grace Kelly.

I loved this movie when I was little and thought it was a real gorilla. It was a great kids movie for sure.

Wow, MJY was made for $90 million and took in only $50 million.

ST:I was made for $70 million and took in $117 million.

Would never have guessed that MJY was the box office bomb between the two.

I grew up loving the original King Kong. I used to watch it a lot during WDSU's 3 o'clock movie in the 70's. Then I watched the original Mighty Joe Young one day and it was better than King Kong to my child self. The remake was very good but the original was even better.

I saw it, but don't remember much about it. I mostly remember the teaser poster didn't exactly suggest it would be a family-friendly Disney film. I might have to visit again.

Wow I haven't seen this movie in absolute ages. I had no idea that was a Disney film.

Now I'm going to make sure I find time to check it out. Thanks Op!

I watched it with my wife and children a month ago. I laughed my arse off at the Strasser death scene. 80's and 90's kids movies DGAF!
