This streaming stuff is a boon to actors and the entertainment business. All will be perpetually employed from now on.

That’s not free 4k. 4k is just included in all packages. Anyone who falls for that marketing is an idiot.

Well since their biggest competitor charges a premium for 4k, I'm ok with it.

No shite genius

It’s more of a shot at Netflix who charges extra for 4k

It says base price. I wonder what the taxes and fees will bring it to, and if there are additional tiers or packages.

I wonder how long that base price will last as well.

Disney's plan is actually a very smart, and savage one to cripple Netflix.

They already have the biggest library there is, plus the assets and capital to undercut their competitor from the get-go.

This is almost like the old Amazon strategy of undercutting all your competitors just to take market share then gradually rise prices/and or services once you've taken control of the market.

The lower profit margins or even losses at first can be justified for the long game.

This also forces Netflix to rethink their pricing. People are going to jump ship for half the cost and potentially better content. This is a no-brainer for the consumer.

Amazingly, Netflix attempted this same strategy once and dominated a barren landscape, but now they're just saddled with debt and got greedy. Unless they come off they're prices, they're going to be toast in a decade, and bought out by Disney for pennies on the dollar (which is probably the ultimate goal anyway for Disney).

This is why free market capitalism cannot be beaten. Competition equals good things for the consumer.

Netflix has adapted their business multiple times now to stay in the front of this.

No idea why people think Netflix will all of a sudden not know how to adapt.

If it’s only 6.99 a month, I’ll just add it to what I already have.

Netflix reported a loss in subscribers for the first time ever recently. They may have trouble staying ahead of this one.

They are losing a shite load of their most popular content though. It's not just the Disney stuff they are losing. All the WB/CW and NBC stuff will be gone here pretty soon too.

Are people going to follow wherever The Office or Friends go? Or will they just find some other show to keep on in the background?

Because put me in the latter category

Those are the two most watched shows on Netflix. They will absolutely lose subscribers once they (and all the other older sitcoms and dramas) are gone. shite, the entire reason I even broke down and subscribed to Hulu is Netflix lost X-Files. There will be plenty of people like me who follow a certain show to a different service. Netflix also doesn't have the benefit of an OTA or cable channel to advertise their new stuff the way the other streaming services do.

I know they are the most watched. And Netflix is currently putting lots of money into making sitcom like content. Why? So they can fill that void when The Office and Friends leave because they are banking that people will just choose another background show rather than follow The Office to whatever NBC puts together, which I can’t honestly see as being better than what Netflix has to offer.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up getting it and just hope they don't rape me in the inevitable price increase.
