They didn't even bother changing the camera angle:

Season 2, Episode 7 of the animated show Star Wars: Visions quite literally copied the lightsaber choreography of low budget fan film.

I am disappointed now.

Holy shite. Now, i know Disney does some shady shite, but someone is getting fired for that. There's no way Disney would put itself in a position to get legally screwed like that.

Justice for Anas!

CBS won a ridiculous case involving a blue space/ time bending tardigrade that the courts somehow claimed wasn't unique enough to be protected.

The case involving Anas Abdin, who claimed that "Star Trek: Discovery" infringed on his copyright by using a tardigrade character similar to one in his unreleased game, was dismissed by the court. The court ruled that the concept of a space-traveling tardigrade is not protectable under copyright law, affirming that both works were not substantially similar.

With this having already been decided in the corporation's favor, I don't see much hope, but I guess anything is possible.

The key is that they didn’t create the content. They just let them use the IP.

Watch the Indian company fold and reform as something else.

Doubt it. And also doubt Disney gives a frick, even if they do wind up paying this person a little bit of money.

No one is going to get fired for this. I like that the dude in the video even admits to his baiting: "It's not really Disney [who's] responsible for this one."

Visions, Season 2? I wasn’t even aware of this show, and I’d be what used to be called a big Star Wars fan.

Oh well back to being clueless on all things Disney Star Wars and having more free time because of it. Thanks TLJ!

True

But it is still fricked up, bush league shite, and there is societal value in calling it out

If you can't concede that. . .I mean. . .

I actually agree with this, but it's not at all the same as the OP's case. A tardigrade is a known creature which has a specific look. No one can claim ownership over that any more than they could claim ownership of a T Rex image, regardless if the two are used very similarly.

This choreography sequence is shot for shot identical and I think a good intellectual property lawyer could win a case against Disney.

If you had followed up on the Anas case, it wasn’t just a tardigrade. It was a 6 foot tall blue tardigrade that controlled space / time travel.

Something like the Spacing Guild in Dune.

IRL, they’re microscopic, survive in space but the rest is pretty damn specific.

Do you have a picture comparison of both? It sounds like both might be derived from a third thing.

I agree that the industry usually wins these, but this sequence is way more specific and direct a copy. Who knows?

An independent foreign company ripped off a rip (homage) off of Star Wars and sold it to Star (Disney) Wars.

Disney is safe.

*I* don't have anything but a LINK but there's more to it than just ONE blue tardigrade. Time /Space travel and 4 characters - (black woman, dark skinned man with a beard, redhead, blonde guy,) And we're talking about an untitled video game, never released, from circa 2014/2015 vs what appeared in ST:D 2018.

It's clear his creation came prior to the TV show.
