It's very good, I'd put it right behind Howl's for me. For me it's:

Spirited Away>Mononoke>Howl's>Nausicca.

And all are very close.

fascinating list from cough as always. A mix of classics and stuff I've never heard of, kind of par for the course

ETA: We both have It's A Wonderful Life in the same spot, #7.

Is that the one where Matt Damon is bipolar?

ETA: Nope, that's The Informant! Never heard of The Informer.

Nice pick. I saw Amelie got some love earlier. Both great movies and are fun to watch.

freaux do you notice that I'm still working on my ballot on page 1, would it help if I wipe that post clean and just post a new ballot when finished or will you go back and count it once I'm done?

Scruffy, you like sci-fi and listed neither Gattaca or Brazil. I'm not asking why you didn't list them, but what are your thoughts on those movies?

Yeah, I've seen most of those and he's got a weird taste in movies that I really like. Though I absolutely fricking HATE Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Definitely on a top ten list of most overrated movies I've ever seen.

It's not about films viewed. It's about the best. More than a few movies on his list are mediocre to me. I just like how he's all over the place with his taste. I respect that.

O I respect his taste definitely. His list surprised me though seeing that some of the movies I thought would be on his list didn't make it. My Darling Clementine for example. I've seen 17 of those movies. But haven't heard of 5-6. Hadn't heard of maybe 5-6 of all the previous lists combined.

It's not a definitive list for me personally. I was gonna use just movies from the voting thread here to pick my 40 from but Freaux said to just go ahead and do my own.

I have a few hundred movies I like best out of a few thousand that I've seen. Narrowing it down to just 40 seemed impossible. I could easily swap this 40 out with another 40 and feel ok with it.

I just wanted to get a mix of movies I like that were on everyone else's lists plus give some attention to other lesser seen movies I like.

And yeah my tastes tend to gravitate more towards older movies, but you guys know that.

Still one of the great westerns. I just wanted to give some love to some other films. I'm glad you listed it though!

Gattaca
I really like Gattaca, and I actually own it. Like I said in my post, there are movies that I forgot when I made my list. That is one of them. I hate making lists because I can never decide what should be on them.

I haven't seen Brazil, but thanks for recommending it. I just watched the trailer. Looks interesting.

Yep. I consider myself a film buff, but whenever he comes in talking about movies he's seen, I feel ignorant.

Nah man, you guys have seen way more movies than the average movie watcher and I've seen a lot of movies but not as many as it seems. Everyone here's 40 lists has on it a movie or two I haven't seen yet.

Agree. I had to look all of these up.

2) On Dangerous Ground
3) Ace in the Hole
3) Pickup on South Street
4) The Tall T
5) Pépé le Moko
13) The Roaring Twenties
20) The Sundowners
24) Fury
25) Some Came Running
27) Black Narcissus
30) The Big Country
33) The Informer
34) The Spiral Staircase
40) Gumshoe

But I do share 5 films with his list and Kind Hearts and Coronets just missed my top 40 so perhaps I'm not a total film idiot.
