DirecTV Portable Satellite for Tailgating

I have DirecTV service and would like to get a portable satellite for tailgating. When I called DirecTV, they tried to sell me this SatGo system for $999 which included the TV. We already have the TV and from talking to several tailgaters it seemed to be much cheaper to get your own satellite and just an additional receiver from DirecTV.
My questions are: Where do I get a satellite like this? Can it be HD service? Will DirecTV come set up the system? Total cost?

ebay for the dish.. you can get a triple LNB dish (older generation, MPEG2 HD(ESPN), but not the MPEG4 HD (locals)
probably cost you no more than $40 for the dish. Mount on a 1 5/8" pole, make a stand for the pole. RG6 coax cable and your existing DTV receiver.

Yes, if you like deep-fried electronics the first time lightning strikes anywhere near your tailgate and $1,000 HDTV. I don't, so I sprang for a real live surge suppressor.

you need to shop around on the internet. cables are dirt cheap on the internet.

Not talking about HDMI cables; I know those can be had for $20 or less. And an extension cord can be gotten for $10 or so. But a good suppressor with an adequate joule rating is going to be at least $50.

i guess. mine was $7. my hdmi cables were like $4 and my coax somewhere between $10-$15.

It just depends on what you want or need. If you are running a 19" SD tube TV, like I use to, who cares if it gets fried. A new one only costs $100. But if you drop a grand an an HDTV $50 to $100 on a good surge suppressor is just a wise investment to protect from lightning strikes or even just power surges from your generator.

perhaps. if it's lightning around my tailgate though then more than likely we've already shut the generator and the tv off anyway.

You just run the coax from the satelitte straight into the inputs on the back of the receiver and the HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV input. The only tricky part is tuning in the signal which is something of a black art.
You have to have a clear view of the Southern sky so beware of tailgating around large trees and buildings that block the southern view. Set the vertical angle on the dish and lock it in, that won't change unless you set up for a road game. The receiver will give you your correct horizontal angle if you input your zip code, then you just match it using your compass through trial and error. Sometimes you nail it right off the bat; sometimes you drink a case of beer before you can get it working. Either way you're a winner.
