I mean, just, wow. So fricking terrible.

It's like they threw a bunch of deleted scenes from Taken 2 and 2 Fast 2 Furious and tried to edit them together to make some sort of movie with John McClaine saying "I'm on vacation!!!" to splice them all together.

Jeez it makes me really sad to see one of the first great action franchises and characters stoop to this level. Really kind of mad that Bruce Willis agreed to do this.

There was barely any dialogue at all, and it was probably better that way because the few lines they had that tried to explain the mess you were seeing on screen was so bad it made the whole thing even more confusing and frustrating.

To everyone involved in making this, and to myself for paying to see it

I love the Die Hard series and John McClane but I really doubt I'll ever see this based on what I've heard from it.

I'll quote myself from a previous thread to concur and warn people:

quote:

It's typical action - car chase, explosions and gunplay non-stop - which is fine (I guess) - but the problem is -

- the script might be one of the worst studio stock scripts ever...the dialogue is amazingly bad...Willis spouts the cliche "I'm on Vacation!" at least 4 times during firegights...every actor assumes they can never be injured by any bullet (I know that's par for the course) but this is really bad...every firefight is with a wink and a smile and...to that end...

- Willis seems to understand this movie is a joke and sleepwalks through the entire thing with a hammy/sarcastic grin on his face...and spouts his lines as if he had just received them off camera from the director. It's Steven Segal straight to video territory.

Yeah, I went with a friend to watch it yesterday and was expecting very little, and it still managed to disappoint. The guy who played Bruce's son was flat out terrible. Horrible plot.

Man, I just have a soft spot for the Die Hard movies. It was the first shoot em up R rated movie I ever saw and I love Bruce Willis and John McClain.

Even Live Free or Die Hard was really enjoyable to me as a popcorn flick although I'd never call it a great movie. At least it tried to live up to the spirit of the original.

But honestly, this was like some straight to video nonsense. It really did feel so removed from anything related to the others in the series.

shite man, it was really fricking bad. Not sure I've stressed that enough

And I can appreciate good mindless popcorn flicks. Hell, Armageddon is one of my most watched movies of all time.

But this was just painfully bad.

Just curious, how did y'all feel about Live Free or Die Hard (the 4th one).

I mean it was totally unrealistic and ridiculous (hacking complicated government websites and security doors in 3 seconds, a fighter pilot ripping through an American city to shoot up a mac truck) but I didn't hate it...

All the other Die Hards felt like they were trying to make a blockbuster and spent some time on it - whether it succeeded or not.

This is like some shitty foreign movie company bought the rights to Die Hard and decided to cash in on the franchise.

I liked it. Not as much as the original three, but I liked it. Thought Timothy Olyphant was alright too. I had zero desire to see the new one. I could tell from the previews that it was a pos

Great post. Hadn't seen that, but yeah the script was so terribly bad. The "I'm on vacation" schtick was not only annoyingly overused and not funny, HE ACTUALLY WASN'T EVEN ON VACATION!!!!

He went to fricking Moscow because he found out his son was in a fricking gulag about to be executed for murder and was trying to save him!!! WTF??? Spoilers I guess

Even though to be honest, I couldn't spoil much even if I tried, because the entire last sequence at Chernobyl is still a mystery to me. Still not quite sure how or why they ended up there and how the two bad guys had the falling out.

yep...the misuse of the cliche was the best part of the movie.

I started to wonder, is this intentional? Why would they waste so much money trying to do a "so bad, it's good."

The only reason I liked DH 1&3 is because he is someone you can relate to in that he isn't a total badass. The last two (imo) try to be serious action films when the only good action films are those that parody the serious nature that used to be popular.

I didn't hate LForDH either. It at least felt like a part of the Die Hard universe, even if it was unrealistic on a much bigger scale than the first 3. I can honestly say I enjoyed the movie, although I've never felt the urge to watch it again like I have the others.

This was just on a completely different plane than the rest of the series.

It was okay. I certainly didn't hate it either but it didn't feel like a "Die Hard" movie where McClane is limited to one setting (Nakatomi in DH1, Dulles Airport in DH2, etc) and suffers realistic injuries through the process of overcoming the terrorists. The action scenes in particular were a bit too farfetched but I still found it to be pretty enjoyable.

I've just decided to pretend 16 Blocks was Die Hard 4 and the series ended there.

Its more Die Hard than the last two flicks by a country mile and thats even with Mos Def talking in an annoying nasal voice the whole time.

That's exactly right.

The things that happen to him in this movie that he simply gets up and walks away from have to be some of the most outrageous in film history.

Seriously, he makes Rambo look like a huge pussy. It's more along the lines of Topper Harley in Hot Shots Part Deux.

Zamoro, and anyone else who's seen it, when he is thrown from the helicopter, am I the only one that literally thought John McClain was going to die and be sliced into a thousand pieces based on what happened before he landed???

Yeah, that would be my suggestion. I enjoyed the 4th even though it was unrealistic and silly in parts, the 5th is just hot garbage.
