Aside from the Madonna title song, the opening sequence is really one of my favorites. The fact that it sets up Bond as a prisoner and he loses 14 months of his life being tortured was interesting...This really was an all-time great beginning...but then it just goes to almost complete crap.

Invisible Aston Martin, horrible CGI...from the moment Bond utters the line, "I'm checking out" and shows up in the hotel in PJs, it all went downhill.

Didn’t we just talk about how awful this film is?

Sorry...I happen to put it on because I'm watching them all with my son.

It's the Attack of the Clones of the Bond series. Terrible CGI and dialogue.

I just watched this tonight and thought I had somehow put the movie to replay the opening sequence or something. The title card felt like 20 minutes long.

I enjoyed it, over the top yes, but maybe because I was just young at the time and enjoyed Brosnan as Bond.

Bronsons era is pretty underrated, the issue is that every movie is worse than the previous one. But they got the tone exactly how it should be imo

I hope at some point we can return to a witty/smidge of cheesy bond that doesn’t take itself too seriously

I think we have to consider the time period. Early 2000s was a weird time for action movies. I'm sure we all remember Mission Impossible 2.

Frickin’ John Woo...I still think Thandie Newton’s part in that mess was intended for Catherine Zeta-Jones.

I could be really off here but I seem to remember the real reason the script had Bond locked up for 14 months was a way to subtly say “Bond couldn’t stop 9/11 because he was in captivity.”

Seems random, lame, and weird, but I swear I remember hearing/seeing somewhere that was the reason they conjured up that storyline.

It might’ve been also a reason to explain why Bronson looks approximately 20 years older than the previous films

M had a throwaway line when she was with Bond in the underground sequence that referenced it.

Something to the effect of "While you were away, the world changed"

Hallie Berry in that orange bikini makes it all worth while.

I don't recall, but is this the one when Bond jumps out of the plane and free falls? It's been many years since I have seen any of these, and that particular opening always stuck with me despite how over the top it was.

Do you mean when he skydives into the freefalling plane? That's Goldeneye, and yeah, it's a pretty awesome opening sequence.

That's the one! It's beyond absurd, yet fantastically awesome

Btw was there any actual motive to Miranda Frost being a double agent and working for Graves? They just sort of go “hey she’s a double agent ok? Ok.” And move on

I mean atleast give her a random Russian subculture back story like they gave Sean Bean to explain a random change of sides

She was supposed to be Grave's secret lover from college.
