Disney being sued for billions over Moana claims

Animator Buck Woodall claims Disney's hit animation copied ideas from his own work which "could not possibly have been developed by chance or without malicious intentions". Ron Clements, the director of Moana, reportedly says the film was not "in any way" inspired by Woodall's work.

It points to similarities between the plot points of Moana, released in 2016, and Bucky "which could not possibly have been accidental", including how both are about a teenager who defies parental warnings and embarks on a dangerous voyage across Polynesian waters to save the endangered land of a Polynesian island.

It claims other similarities include how both plots celebrate a recurring theme of the Polynesian belief in spiritual ancestors manifested as animals, and how both include the protagonist's journey starting with a turtle, a plot involving a symbolic necklace, a main character who encounters a demigod adorned with a giant hook and tattoos and a giant creature that's concealed within a mountain.

Unfortunately, despite the evidence, Disney will likely win. Probably outright, with no 'settlement'.

* Changed Subject due to conflicting stories on the actual amount of lawsuit.

Which set of evidence?

From your link:

Disney also submitted documents regarding the origin and development of Moana, including story ideas and pitch materials

Yeah, evidence after the fact.

The case has been filed. If he's trying to shake down Disney, and doesn't have the receipts, bad news for him. But even so, it's unlikely he'll win.

Should they have submitted that evidence before the case was filed?

His outline rings strikingly close to what ended up being Moana.

You think it's not easy for Disney to fabricate 'evidence' on a new project, claim it as their own, and then present THAT as their own work?

Sure, whatever.

Reread my first & second post. I said even if he DOES have receipts, and he'd better, Disney is still likely to win.

This reminds me of the CBS vs Indie game developer, Anas Abdin regarding space traveling blue tardigrades and Star Trek: Discovery .

Zero backpeddling. Just offering up facts. Try reading first, then reacting.

Is this going to be the case where a poster completely switches positions on civil lawsuits asking for outrageous amounts of money since it’s against Disney?

Switching from "he'll probably lose" to what... he'll absolutely win?

I don't get what point you're attempting here.

10 Billion is a boat load of money. That's really the issue here. Seems unlikely he'd get an amount which is far more than any profit Moana 1 or 2 will ever see.

But carry on.

That’s what you read?

Wow, man. I knew you were slow, but I didn’t think it was that bad.

Solid pivot from "Unfortunately, despite the evidence, Disney will likely win. Probably outright, with no 'settlement'." to "10 Billion is a boat load of money. That's really the issue here."

Vastly more intelligent than you, but not saying much.

Instead of inventing things to be angry over because you're simping HARD for Disney, why not just read the linked story, and make up your own mind?

disney has been sued for several of their pixar movies
they go after deep pockets and usually no merit to these claims
probably hoping disney gives them a payday to make it go away

I have never simped hard for Disney. You’re definitely confused.

Thanks for the laugh though, I needed a good chuckle.

There's zero pivot on my part.

I'd not be surprised if Disney won. Said that outright. Even if he DOES have the evidence. I paralleled that with the CBS v Indie game maker case.

And yes, I suspect because of the huge ask of 10 Billion, this story is getting some coverage.

Seriously, how are you angry at me that someone filed suit at Disney? Are you that devoted to your childhood imagination? I don't get it.
