Dexter will have to help cover for Deb, it seems. And with the way Deb is crumbling, I wouldn't be surprised if Deb and Dexter team up to take down the old lady in the end.

Oh, and the Hispanic-looking dude named "El Guapa " or whatever (trying not to spoil) went to UNO.

Poor Dex is getting manipulated by all of the women in his life.

Vogel obviously is pushing his buttons but it's floating under the radar that Deb is playing some mind games of her own.

Hand holding the gun in the video was the old lady, imo

I don't think it's her with the gun. I think she's a serial killer, by get others to do her killing.

When dexter was telling the lady he wanted someone to talk to after Harry had died, she asked why he would have wanted to. She kind of brushed it off after... Seems fishy as If dex doesn't remember an important part about Harry's death that he should know.

Pretty crazy that this show was awesome season 1-4 (especially 4), garbage 5 & 6, and has gotten the ship righted in 7 & so far in 8.

I almost gave up on the show after 5-6 both sucked.

Glad they've turned it around.

I think she's surprised by Dexter's sensitivity.

The show is never clear just how much of a psychopath Dexter is.

I really like this season a lot and the direction it's heading, but this serial killer story needs to be resolved by episode 8 or sooner. This is the final season and it doesn't need to revolve around another serial killer. Those where fine for the earlier seasons, but just like last season there was a perfect blend of cat and mouse with Ivan and Dexter and deb coming to terms with who dexter really is and her feelings about him. This season needs to revolve around Dexter avoid being caught/found out, Deb's coping with events from season 7, the return of Hannah and the reveal of the real cause of Harry's death.

I know they are using this serial killer as the vehicle to tell the story but I just hope they don't spend too much time on it to where the other things feel rushed at the end.
/quasi rant

Very good start though.

Episode 1 of Season 1 is Dexter telling us how he isn't human and has no feelings or emotions. Maybe the series ends with him realizing that isn't entirely true.

Just finished the episode, really really good episode, the season is setting up nicely.

If the old lady isn't the killer, she at least knows who he is and why he's doing it

I think that's been an issue throughout the series.

If it is the old lady then she would've had to force someone else to hang Sussman on the hook. She couldn't have done it. She was insistent upon Dex going to the cabin ASAP.

Yeah, more likely if she's behind the deaths. I'm hoping this season is a good one and so far it looks alright.

Btw, Dexter (MCH) directed this episode.

Great season so far. I'm thinking the ole Brit has been creating vigilante serial killers all over the place. She understands their minds and I think she uses them as tools to exact her form of justice on the criminal world. I don't think it is her with the gun, nor the one killing. I think it is one of her proteges that she wants Dexter to take out and eventually replace. I'm still not sure on the end, but I see Dexter saving Deb in some fashion and it costing him his life.

the writers clearly want us to "figure out" that she is holding the gun so my guess too is that it is not her.

it's Dokes!!!

i had a idea last night during the episode that i don't really think is correct but ill share it anyway.

I think (but not really, just another theory) Dex is going crazy alongside Deb. Sure the old lady is a character in the season, but the interactions between her and Dexter arent really happening. It is just another form of his conscience, similar to Harry. Dexter is losing his grip on reality due to the hardships he forced upon deb. this will ultimately be his downfall at the end of the season.

Nah, Masuka walked up while they were talking and made a comment about them together.

I think Dexter realizing he's not as much of a psycho as he thinks he is has some traction. I could be ok with him realizing he can stop killing, and living out a normal life, but I still think he should die.

Also, I hope bringing back Hannah isn't going to screw up a great season so far

Just watched the episode. Anyone think deb and dex patch things up?

ETA: agree that doctor lady is behind the killings. She loves vigilantes and I think it's her way of righting the world. She gets dex caught imo

She has so much incriminating evidence on Dex just laying around the house, DVDs and childhood drawings. She is very dangerous to Dex.

The writers are making it fairly obvious that the Dr is involved with the killings. That's good as it means we'll probably see Dexter realize that soon and the subplot won't get dragged out too long.

One of the biggest evolutions I have seen with Dexter is that he no longer seems to be driven by his "need" to kill. In previous seasons he would start acting like a psycho if he didn't get the chance. Now his killings are more driven by everyone he cares about. It will be interesting if the series ends with Dexter realizing he can stop and chooses to do so.
