A commercial crab boat working in the same area as featured on the popular series “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” capsized off the coast of Oregon Tuesday, killing all three crew members on board.
The Mary B II fishing vessel was crossing Yaquina Bay Bar in Newport, Ore. when it capsized amid waves that reached up to 14 feet, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
Coast Guard crew members recovered the body of one fisherman Tuesday night.
A second later washed ashore, while a third was found trapped on the boat, according to CBS News.
We did everything we could. Unfortunately, it was just a tragic outcome and our hearts and thoughts are with the family and friends of the crew," U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read told local CBS affiliate KPIC-TV.
The Mary B II reportedly requested a Coast Guard escort as it crossed the bay, and it was during that escort that the vessel capsized.
KEZI initially reported that the boat was featured on “Dungeon Cove,” a spin-off of the wildly popular “Deadliest Catch” that premiered on Discovery in 2016.
The series followed the lives of captains based in Newport, Ore. on the hunt for the Dungeness crab, though the show’s official synopsis made no mention of the Mary B II.

so it had an escort, capsized and they couldn't get to them in time? wtf.

Why didn't they have the floating warm wet suits on?

Yeah, that sea is nuts up there. The waves and the temperature makes it so dangerous to simply dive in the water and try to save people. The helicopters sometimes can't get low enough to drop a diver due to the waves being the size of 4-story buildings

Yaquina Bay Bar
this was not offshore...its a bar crossing. very shallow water at the mouth of a river subject to wind and tides. very dangerous at times especially for a slow maneuver like a rescue

Was about to post the same thing. Wow, that's nuts that "help" was literally right there and could do nothing to save them. Talk about danger. Yikes.

so, they don't call it deadly for nothing?

During the first (and only?) season of that show a fishing vessel went down in the same area. No one survived.

yeah that would be a pretty terrible way to go, knowing help was right there, but couldn't get to you in time.

the temperatures mean that you really wont feel much past that first adrenaline hit when the water hits your chest.
