Great choice. With Fincher and Craig, its hard for me to hate the idea of this remake. I don't think it'll be as hardcore as the original, it's kind of lazy to do, I dont see how they improve anything, but at least they're trying. I'm down for Fincher making another Seven type movie.

You know, I think that these series of movies are being adapted just so people don't have to read subtitles. BUT Fincher is one of the directors that can take this film and do the original justice. I need to see who they cast as Lisbeth next. I feel the same way about Let Me In. I have seen the new trailer and all the things I have read about the early reviews are saying that it is faithful to the original. There are some changes BUT the majority of the film is in most ways almost shot for shot with the original.

Agree on both.

Good find. Problem for me is, I'm not familiar with any of their work, doesn't give me a good read on what to expect. Hopefully that's a good thing. Using a less established actress means they might be tryin to keep those tough scenes for Lisbeth.

I agree with you, but I think that those scenes won't be quite as graphic, so as to pull in a larger box office

I really didn't like the original, and I think Fincher's adaptation could end up better. I still think the source story is droll and predictable.

The problem with the whole thing is the original was great. I just don't see how it is possible for them to make it better.

I'm afraid the "Americanization" of the film won't be any improvement, even though I think Fincher is a decent director.

I'm almost 100% certain that that's exactly why they are doing it. That an Americans want to see American faces that they are familiar with.

This is the most unnecessary remake ever. Craig is ok and I'm sure it won't be crap unless they cast Charlotte Johanssen or someone of that ilk to play lisbeth. Frankly I think the only improvement could be the guy who played Martin in the movie. Kind of an imporant role. I think Ian McKellen would be great for it but probably too old to pull it off at this point. probably need someone in their mid 50's who still looks fit.

Watched the original last night for the first time and am really against a remake. It was such a powerful movie that a remake would only get worse. No way they repeat that arse rape scene as graphically.

The swedish film captured the book perfectly and the characters were spot on how they described in the book.

No way they can improve on it.

Can someone help me understand what was so powerful about this movie? I had the same bored expression on my face until the end. I kept waiting for some kind of twist, or some kind of insight into Lisbeth's past that would save it in the final minutes.

I think Lisbeth is nearly as bland of a character as Bella Swan.

Probably not. I'm 0 for however-many-times-I've-tried-to-change-an-opinion on this board, but I can tell you what I liked about it, that's about it. I honestly think this movie is like Seven on a budget. Awesome acting, very fleshed out characters, I liked the story, I thought everything tied together, the characters had motivation, the payoffs were good, thought it was dark, gritty, and didn't pull any punches. I thought it relied on a slow reveal vs. quick surprises. The bad guy's not a major surprise, but I thought how it got to them was a good plot. It moves slowly, but I wasn't bothered by the pace. I admit, I didn't love it right away...the movie stuck with me, kept me thinking about it, an aspect of a lot of my favorite movies.

SPOILERS:

As far as a twist, I guess it was the fact that they were trying to solve a murder that never actually happened. As far as insight into Lisbeth's past, I was fine with the "she hates men because her dad was abusive to her mom, and she murdered him to protect her" thing.
