Everyone has had all the time in the fricking world right now. That fat fricking turd can’t go to New York and go on a pizza crawl right now. If he wraps up the book by the end of this year, then without this pandemic it wouldn’t have been wrapped up until 2025.

In the next paragraph he said he's editing 3 Wild Cards books in his "copious" amounts of free time.

God damn it

He’s such an a-hole. I’m in Santa Fe pretty often for work, and I’m really looking forward to shitting all over him if I run into his fat arse. It is not a large city. It’s like twice the size of Oxford.

Dude. Just be like me. I gave up on those books 6 years ago. It’s never going to be finished by Martin. He doesn’t care. He is the type who starts a project but never finishes.

I’d honestly have paid a ghost writer to just finish the books if he didn’t want to dedicate the time to completing them.

Personally, I think he is scared to finish them. This has become bigger than he could manage.

I checked his blog daily in the months/years leading up to Dance. He would throw the 'meereneese knot' excuse out at every opportunity. Looks like he isn't even bothering with excuses this time.

If anything I think he's not finishing the series because it keeps his creative content relevant when he puts out a teaser that he's 'getting closer to finishing' the ASOIAF series. It's easy publicity while he puts out other projects.

Even if he had released WoW today I wouldn't buy it until he finishes the entire series. No reason to support him anymore for how long he's dragged this along and distracted himself with other projects.

Like you said he should have gotten a ghost writer to at least write something rough that he can go over and refine/change as needed to push the story forward if he's having this much trouble. He's either too big of a narcissist to do so though or it is a business decision IMO. The fanboys/girls who enable this guy by continuing to buy anything he puts out or helps put out including this new HBO series in development are as much of a problem though.

I think the ending that came on the show was in large part in line with how he was going to end the books. It was always said he knew from the get go where the major characters would go and told D&D that.

He was perfectly fine letting the show roll out without his assistance in the late seasons so he could see the fan reaction. I think he realizes he's fricked and doesn't know how to end it now.

I really think Dany burning down King’s Landing could be an excellent ending for the books, it was just rushed and I doubt in the books Cersei will be Dany’s victim. I think the next time Jamie sees Cersei, he kills her. Keep in mind GRRM directly wrote this scene in Blackwater. I think this is foreshadowing that towards the end of Winds of Winter that when all hope is lost for her that she poisons Tommen (suicide seems to be way out of character for Book Tommen), and then instead of the Knight of Flowers, Jaime is the one who walks in too late to save Tommen from her. I think Jaime will then tell Cersei the truth on why he actually killed Aerys, she realizes she’s turned into Aerys, and then Jaime strangles her, with Faegon taking the throne.

Fast forward to the end of ADOS, Dany will be pissed when the people of King’s Landing don’t want her as their queen and want the rightful heir to Rhaegar as their king. Dany, knowing Aegon is a fake and that Jon Snow is the actual heir to Rhaegar, loses her shite and then burns down the city for the peasants being ungrateful for everything she’s done. That is why Faegon was important to the plot overall since just burning down the city when someone as batshit evil and crazy as Cersei is in charge just doesn’t bring the Scouring of the Shire that Martin is going for.

He has no clue how to tie everything together in a way that results in showering praise like he has received in the past. I think he feels more comfortable with someone else finishing it "based on his notes" and being able to clean up his writers block issues. If he passes it off now then he gets labeled a failure as opposed to just being remembered as incredibly inefficient.

Yesterday he was busy chairing the House Judiciary Committee so we can't hold that against him.

I watched a YouTube video where he was discussing his favorite unused chapters during a Q&A with an audience, and he started talking about the history book World of Ice and Fire that came out a few years ago. He said he asked his publisher if they wanted him to finish Winds or put that aside to work on the new book (World). They told him to stop working on Winds of Winter so they could quickly get out the new history thing. So even his publishers are complicit in his novels taking 10 years to finish.
