Christmas Vacation best sequel ever

Lethal Weapon II and Star Trek II

This is one of the worst threads ever. Most of these are insane.

Lethal Weapon, Back to the Future, Rocky, etc. are not comedies (I know the Rocky was a joke) just because they have jokes.

And some of these are ridiculous. I can think of a few comedies on par with the original but none really better.

Note: In an attempt to lose credibility here, I loved Deuce Bigolo and thought the sequel was more of the first

Call me crazy but I think Next Friday can go toe to toe with Friday. I think Epps is hilarious in that one (and the 3rd one also). Not saying Chris Tucker doesn't play that part perfect, but Epps has some classic one liners as well

i've been saying this for years and people have called me crazy many times, but i'm sorry. and definitely now even more than when NF first came out cuz Rush Hour1,2,&3 made me hate Tucker. well, at least 2&3.

some of the other mentions on here like CaddyShack 2... come on now. i wanted to punch Dan Aykroyd in the face!!

caddyshack 2 is really the only answer to this

seriously though, i think i disagree with every sequel being better than the original. christmas vacation may be the only exception to the rule.

wayne's world - no way. too many rehashed jokes

austin powers - see above

ace ventura - very very close, but edge goes to original

american pie - no

friday - no fricking way. tucker was classic, and epps is just aggravating and tries too hard. plus debo was a straight pussy in NF

bill and ted - this one shouldn't even warrant a response. turrible, just turrible

i'm absolutely flabbergasted at the responses in this thread

Christmas Vacation is a good call. I don't know that it's necessarily better than the original but it and the original clearly stand alone.

Evil Dead 2 - good call and nice find. I think it's the best one in the series. Outrageous and over the top effects that are both disturbing, freaky, and funny.

Caddyshack 2 - without question the worst sequel in the history of cinema. The decent catchy Kenny Loggins song at the start of the movie was the only decent thing to come out of that movie.

I haven't heard one yet that I agree with as being BETTER as opposed to can stand alone with the exception of:

Evil Dead 2. And in speaking of that, I think Bruce Campbell vs the Army of Darkness was even better.

People still quote lines from Friday all the time. Next Friday? Not so much.

It's a shame they couldn't get Chris Tucker to come back for the third one.

Chris Tucker wasn't coming back for any of the sequels because Ice Cube couldn't afford him. Tucker was making $20 million per Rush hour film. That's literally twice the entire budget of Next Friday, Cube couldn't cut him a big enough check.

Yup.

Friday is one of the greatest urban comedies of all time.

Next Friday was just a lame Mike Epps vehicle/Ice Cube cash grab.

He read the script.

And apparently spent it all on Krispy Kreme.

If Lethal Weapon counts then Lethal Weapon 5 takes the cake. Best sequel ever.

Clerks 2 two has a couple of great scenes, namely Pillow Pants. But the original Clerks is a shitload funnier.

Clerks 2 should have been titled "We did it for the money."
