Because they are.

All the GOAT talk does get out of hand and his movies are overrated in that sense. But at the same time, like other big names, people like to nit pick and over analyze his movies for that same reason. People go in expecting greatness and when it’s not everyone acts like it was trash

But he’s one of a handful of directors where I’ll 100% see every movie he makes

I thought it was good. It's a movie meant to be seen on the big screen. Watching in IMAX was awesome.

If Dunkirk was bad, then what do we call all the movies that get released that are legitimately bad? Extra bad? Super bad?

But I guess we’re in a time when everything is great or trash, no in between

Agreed. Cosmopolitan, Good Time, High Life, Damsel, several other interesting choices.

He seems like the only sane or at all self aware person to come from that franchise.

Kristen Stewart: Clouds of SIls Maria, Personal Shopper, Certain Women, Lizzie, and several other interesting choices. Go watch Good Time or Damsel and tell me Robert Pattinson is sane, and then explain how his pivot into challenging indie rolls is any different than Kristen Stewart's equally successful pivot into the same.

Maybe we could call it a 5 year run?

His character was the best part of The Lost City of Z.

Of those mentioned the only one I even somewhat enjoyed was Interstellar. I don’t think his movies stand the test of time well. Do not ever want to rewatch any of those save maybe Memento.

I whole heartedly disagree.

Inception and The Dark Knight are some of the most re-watchable films that've been made in my adult life. I've seen both more than any other movie along with The Departed. Interstellar is also very re-watchable and IMO was even better the second time around. The first viewing, there was so much to unpack. The second really allowed you to relax and enjoy the beauty of the emotions in those characters.

I agree...and I wanted to like it so much due to the involvement of Murphy, Hardy, and Nolan. The second Cillian Murphy killed that little boy on the boat, I was over the movie. It just felt like it was trying to do too many things at once instead of just honing in and doing one thing exceptionally well.

You might be the only person on the planet that feels that way.

50 years from now people will be talking of Nolan in the same company as Hitchcock and Welles. He is a legendary director.
