Going to see Chappie tonite.
Huge fan of District 9. Enjoyed Elysium too, but not as much.
Read some mixed reviews on Chappie, but I still am looking forward to seeing it and giving it a chance.
Anyone else interested in Chappie/Blomkamp?

Just something seems off about it to me. This kind of movie and the director usually appeal to me, but I just can't put my finger on it why I'm not excited.

It looks like it'll be a let down.
I'm worried Blomkamp is the new M. Knight.
I absolutely loved District 9, thought Elysium was pretty terrible.
Damn, 31%.....

I saw it the other night, and wrote a quick review on here.
I enjoyed it overall. It's not near District 9's level, but I didn't think it was as bad as Elysium. It's a solid flick for entertainment IMO.
There are some things that could have been done better, for sure. Blomkamp just needs to get on making District 9's sequel happen.

31% on RT now
Audience review is as 68% and that is always a better indicator for me

I can't wait to see it at home just for Ninja and Yo-Landi, but no way I'm going to the theater for this (and I went to see Jupiter Ascending).

Elysium was not great, but you guys seriously overstate things.
It was still entertaining, had a cool premise, and the visuals were cool. Jodie Foster was terrible as was William Fichtner, but the move was not 10,000 BC bad or anything like that.
10,000 BC is my barometer of bad high budget movies.
Chappie looks decent. I'll wait until it comes on HBO, but then I'll definitely sit down and watch it. I swear to god though, if they get me attached to that robot and kill it, I'm going to be pissed

I actually agree with you on something related to movies.

I did not movie 10,000 B.C. Elysium was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I am biased against the class warfare theme, however, as I aspire to elevate myself to the upper echelon rather than try to pull the upper echelon down to my level.

Elysium was bad, but honestly I think I it was as good as it possibly could have been, given the horrible agenda.

Blomkamp's problem is that he's way too interested in making a point and spreading ideas, to the detriment of his story.
I mean, hell, I like District 9; but even that movie had kind of a weak story once the interesting world-building was laid out.

How was that? The previews looked like it would be a cool movie to see in theaters. Not high art or anything, but entertaining at least.

I want to see it just because it has a Subaru in it.

he'd have to have made a great movie (let alone 3 like MKS) to get that comparison

District 9 is an absolutely great film.

It was embargoed leading up to the last few days and that is usually a sign of disaster.
That, along with an early March release spells bad news all around.
