A big reason we need moderators here. Corinthians, the poli-board crowd and countless alters (Blarny)ruin every thread. And most of them aren't even fans or interested in the movie/show they're arguing about. They just see "black actor" or watch a YouTube video and run here to highjack every thread

i’ve said it before: snape is one of the only characters I have an issue with because his background is a social outcast and his history with James Potter, Sirius and Remus.
It sets up Harry’s dad to look like a racist.

I have read the books many times. I have encouraged my son to read the books. I have seen the movies. When a character that was fully developed and performed in a way such as Alan Rickman(RIP), a huge fundamental change such as switching the race is problematic.
I would say the same thing if they changed the character of Cho to a white girl. Or change the Weasleys to blonde hair. The books were created and gave description of those characters and then was brought to life on the big screen.
Yes I know there have been examples of characters appearances being changed but have they been for the better? Jack Reacher is a character described as 6 ft 4 250 lbs of muscle. Tom Cruise made 2 movies and people hated Tom for playing Reacher. Then Amazon got the rights and got someone who looked like Reacher. Look how more successful that is because how they got the character right.
