Yes, Bullying is an essential element. James/Snape/Lilly's interactions and reasoning for why they do what they do is some of the most important stuff in the entire series.
Making race a factor in it, forcing the creators to change it for a reason that was not essential is insane.
Making Hermione or McGonagle or Quirrel or any number of characters any other race would not have mattered. I fully expected Hermione to be black and would have argued on here that it doesn't effect that character and isn't a big deal.

If you cant figure out a way to preserve character motivations and story arcs with a black snape then you would be an even worse writer than the hacks in Hollywood.
This isnt some major hurdle, any talented person could find a way to make it work.

If you have to change major elements of the entire series (as you argued in your previous post) just to swap races, maybe don't do it

Well maybe they should have stuck to the source material and casted appropriately and this would not be an issue. Novel concept, I know.

The casting is done. The writers for the show dont always control casting.

Agree in both cases, but neither of those roles were ever recreated in a modern production by an actor as loved/reviled as Snape in the present case. That would be tough shoes to fill for any actor, and black washing it only makes it worse.

He doesn’t just bully Snape, he lynches him with Sirius but you’re right, anyone thinking that might have racist implications is just reading into it way too much. That won’t change the perception of James and Sirius’s characters at all.

Oh it’s not real anymore because reasons. Godfather just told me so. Everything we’ve been told is racist for the last decade is no more so that we can accept the race swap. Once we’ve done that the rules will switch back.

There’s just no reason to do this and on top of completely changing the character, motivations, lived experience, state of mind, they cast a guy who used to be a model. I guess you can alter that with prosthetics but it’ll look off putting and again is needless. That’s a lot of trouble just to push an agenda.

You are great at making mountains out of mole hills. Either that or you are incapable of thinking outside the tiniest box you put yourself when it isnt needed.
Tyrion Lannister is described as the most hideous person in the world to look at and having his nose completely chopped off in the books.
In the show they pick dinklage who isnt hideous and he keeps his nose and people loved the character and it worked fine.
No adaptation is gonna be scene for scene the entire book series unless it is 30+ seasons long. A LOT will be changed. It is the entire challenge of adapting something to a different format.
