Is that allowed on movies this new? I feel like I need to read the book for a better understanding.

It was a very loose adaptation and the book ending was totally different lmao, won’t help.

I thought it was just for general discussion. I wanted to delve deep into this.

The only similarities between the book and the movie are that she went into area X with a group of women after her husband went and came home fricked up. And there was a lighthouse.

The book is completely different from the movie.

What happens in the book? Because while the movie was intense, it felt... pointless. I don't know, I'm just walking out of it so I need a few to really collect my thoughts on it.

The ending appeared to be the director and cinematographer jerking off. I have no idea why Oscar Isaacson suddenly had a southern accent for one scene.

For instance, the book ends with the Shimmer still in existence, the husband dead months before from cancer, and the protagonist deciding there wasn't anything left for her out there anyway, and to stay in the Shimmer.

He had that accent the whole movie I think. But if he didn't then it'd be assumed that it was an attribute he picked up from someone else in the shimmer. Much like the tattoo on her forearm.

Because he wasn't Kane anymore. He was all of the military strike team, in Kane's host body. Think of the screaming bear.

I just saw the film last night. I knew it was a novel, amd I’ve spent the day wondering if the book went into more detail about the characters past, reasons for volunteering, and a lot more. I really liked it, but it seemed a little incomplete. Not the ending, halfway through I knew I wasn’t going to get any straight forward answers but there seemed to be a lot of story left out (about each characters motivation, the teams that came before).

Does the book go into the past expeditions? More backstory?

I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi.

So a bear can scream like a human and shite is constantly morphing into who knows what, but accents can’t change?

You know what bothered me most about the bear?

It was simply murdering. And I say that regards to an animal because it was apparently fulfilled killing and absorbing terror. It didn’t eat the first girl, it just abandoned the carcass after she bled out.

On another note:

I handed movie props for setting up a situation where they obviously were standing in an assaulted position, and then they recognized it and stayed in a tall tower.

Except for the “lookout” sitting with no defense on the ground, with no night vision thanks to the lamp, and oh....after the perimeter is breached they stare instead of falling back to the tower.

Similarly, I knew someone was gonna die if they didn’t learn their lesson in the house and barricade themselves upstairs.

the bear

One of the more creepy parts of the movie. I hope the book can make it even creepier. I am going to start reading it this weekend.

ETA: just read the bear isn’t in the book. Oh well.
