So in consideration for the Walter White role was Bryan Cranston, Mathew Broderick and John Cusack. In my humble opinion, I think Bryan Cranston was the perfect choice. But then I wonder, could anyone, anyone have been a better fit for the Walter White role??? Doubt it but open to suggestions.

Broderick would've been great but I doubt he'd have signed on for a lengthy role like that.

Cusack would've ended up going over the top.

Cusak would have played Cusak. That would have sucked.

I had to look to see what Broderick looks like today.

He looks like a chemistry teacher.

I'd have a hard time believing Ferris killing people like a crazed drug lord however.

*I never watched Malcom in the Middle, so Cranston was a complete unknown to me.

Cusack? He's better off dead.

Bryan Cranston was that role. From hair to no hair to underwear to Heisenberg. I can't personally picture anyone else doing it.

Cranston was Malcom's goofy dad and swinging Dentist Tim Whatley before Breaking Bad. I don't think that anyone saw that career change coming.

I have a hard time as well imagining Mathew Broderick as a killer drug lord. Has he done that type role before? Wondering how well he pulled it off if he has.

And his gravelly voice.

Even though Matthew Broderick might have the unassuming look they would be looking for, I can't imagine "I am the one who knocks" or "You're goddamn right!" in his more nasally Ferris Bueller voice.

Crook in Family Business, killed and died for his country in Glory, scum in The Stepford Wives.

ETA: Plus Broderick survived a deadly car crash where two people died (he was cleared of charges), so possibly why he avoids those roles.

Somehow I didn’t realize Cranston and Gilligan first worked together on the x files

I have trouble imagining Broderick as intimidating.

If I remember right, back when the script was being kicked around, there was some interest from Patrick Stewart. I could actually see that.

Cranston played the role so well I can't imagine him as anything other than Walter White.

Well, that wouldn't be an issue as I never thought Walter was intimidating. At all.

I found it funny when he tried to be.

Michael Emerson (from Lost, Person of Interest) is a possibility.

Like others I have a hard time visualizing Broderick slaying a bunch of drug lord baddies and I don't really see Cusack as being as good as Cranston in that role. I think they got it right because he pretty much nailed it
