Good start but I think Mike spraying the camera and rigging the gate was very "dexterish" as far as stupid and unlikely it would work irl.
I agree.

More stupid than Mike using balloons to knock the power out of a building?

Yea, that was an uncharacteristically stupid scene. I'm going to give the writers the benifit here though. Solid first season episode IMO

The primiere absolutely needed to be 2 hours. As Carson said the pace was crazy and was like dropping little tid bits all over the place.
A lot of carelessness was happening. They just left the cartel jefe's caddy out in the field which surely had Mike's blood and some hair or something they could link to Jesse and Gus.
I needed to see more of the exchange out there too. I don't think Mike cools down that easy if they had another 60 seconds to devote to the scene. What exactly did Walt do? How bad is it gonna get? Who's coming?
Beneke needed more time to freak Skylar and us out.
There needed to be more of Walt's reaction to Saul telling him how he facilitated Skylar whoring his $ out. I think her giving away what he had put back for them along with his new thirst for power and feeling invincable leads to dispicable greedy Walt. Which in the drug game it's the greed that makes you sloppy and stay in too long.
We needed the scrap man's reaction to losing his magnet.
We needed some of Brock and Andrea.
We needed some f'n breakfast for Jr.
We needed some more on Hank's thoughts on the lab.
We needed to see what the DEA got from Gus's house.
I'm sure all of that will be addressed but don't bring all of these angles together and leave em dangling in the opener of the next season. It really needed to be 2 hours... also to dry run audience reaction to a long episode like a movie would be.

This episode was resuffling the deck for the cards to be dealt.

Amazingly, that bit is true.
Vince Gilligan talked about that on his podcast. He saw a real news story about it years ago and filed it away in his writer's future idea book.
He thought the contradiction of a bad arse bad guy walking around with a bundle of balloons would make a great scene.
He said Google "mylar balloons and power lines" to check it out.
Amazing ep tonight - the cold open gave me chills.

I expected too much and was disappointed. It was okay but not the opening to the season that I expected.

I've seen an entire chemical plant lose its power because of a single mylar baloon to the main power line. After the plant tripped and was coming back up the operators were joking about having an operator on permanent BB gun duty for baloons.

It's just that they made it jarring by showing so much dominance in one episode. They should've spread it out. He went from being passive to completely aggressive.
Because he killed the top dog and now he wants to assume that position.

Did y'all notice his behavior and demeanor when he was in the office with Saul? He was sitting just like Gus: stone-faced and silent. The only thing missing was the vegetable tray.

I think Hank has seen what's on the laptop and knows about Walt. I'm just curious to know when Walt actually becomes a fugitive and what he's going to do with that M-60.
