Walt and Plainsview do not feel this wound because, ultimately, they do not care about their family
Maybe at the end when Walt Jr. begins referring to himself as Flynn and Skylar starts sleeping with Ted, but the reason Walter got into the drug business was to give his family money since he thought he was dying. He stops caring about his family because of things they do and Skylar's hatred of him being in the meth business

I rule.
his former employer is willing to pay for all of his cancer treatments. He has an out, and refuses it. He wants to be a criminal. He has already "broken bad" in season one.

B, you know I love you, but I disagree with that. He didn't refuse the "out" because he wanted to be a bad guy. As much as he needed the help, he didn't want it coming from his ex business partners that he was extremely jealous of, and already (he felt) looked at him with pity. (Foolish) pride comes before the fall, but doesn't make someone "bad."

I actually like how he's gone from the drop out, frick up, drug pusher to a likeable guy who's developed somewhat of a moral compass that the viewer can kind of feel for
Jesse was so much more unpredictable (and interesting IMHO) when he was a user who ran with a pack of users. I loved seeing Walt cleaning up Jesse's messes during the first couple of seasons. I loved seeing Walt be surprised by Jesse's level of being a "frick up." I appreciated the father/son relationship they had.
It was more realistic then. Jesse was in it for the meth and Walt to help his family. Now it's just a business and Walt's every move is a business decision. He went from being a MacGyveresque chemistry teacher who save their lives by making batteries with some wire, sponges & screws to a Bond type villain who plans train robberies to keep their mobile meth labs running.
Just my take on the program's development.
