Keep it going, they're just setting up the later seasons which are the best ever, IMO

I wasn't trolling, but damn, BB fans are just asking for it.

Honestly, I think in its first two seasons Breaking Bad is just a good TV show. It is a bit plodding and very dedicated to whatever season arc they have in mind. I think it starts to pick up a bit where you are but really you will be missing out if you don't get into season three.

I had watched all of the seasons before this current one with mixed emotions. I had DVRd the new season, but hadnt got around to watch it. Tried to over the weekend, and I couldn't get through 2 episodes. I then had an epiphany. The show would be watchable if Walts family didnt exist. Skylar, Marie, and Walt Jr ruin the show. I ended up just reading the spoiler and skipping the family stuff. Was much better.

As excellent as every season of Breaking Bad is, to me personally the best episodes are those first four of Season 1 dealing with Krazy-8.

Now, the drama does pick up as does the action (especially when Tuco and then later on Gus arrives) but if you don't like it after the Krazy 8 beginning you aren't going to like it.

I completely disagree with this. I barely remember Season 1 beyond the pilot and Tuco is the first villain the show had the made much of any of an impression.

the show does indeed get better and better each season

I liked season one, but mostly just for entertainment value

the really deep artful stuff is in 3-4

I enjoyed them because of Walt and his reactions to dealing with such foreign situations.

I would likely behave in the same way Walt did when things went bad

Kind of post I was looking for at the start of the thread. I just want to know that it gets better. That I'm not crazy and it's just an ok show right now.

I dont think it got any better. I think the first season was the best. By the 3rd season I had to force myself to keep watching because people said it was so good. Watched the 4th because I was pot committed, and gave up on this season.

Honestly though, I'm expecting brilliance around every corner.

Well, here's your problem, man. Everyone on here has built the show up too much for you. If you're expecting Citizen Kane or the Godfather every episode, you'll be disappointed. It's difficult to distance yourself from the praise that's been heaped on the show, but try to. You'll enjoy the show much more. But I hope what you say is right and you do make it through Season 2. It's worth it.

While I think the first two seasons were certainly better than just "good tv" I don't think the real magic started until season 3.

Those first two seasons were necessary for the following seasons to be as great though.

Gotta disagree on that one. Jesse is the ultimate sympathetic character. He' pulled the complete opposite 180 that Walt has and is the only main character who thinks about others before himself.

Season 3 is just interesting from a tv writing stand point. Season 2's arc is very much in the spirit of other good tv shows from the current era. Season 2 has an over arching story arc that slowly builds in an interesting but familiar fashion to anyone that has watched a quality cable drama in the last decade. For instance, David Simon's shows always have a huge penultimate episode that typically resolves the season's plot (and kills major characters) followed by a season finale dealing with the aftermath. By just knowing the episode number you were on, you would have a good idea how exciting (and how much money was spent that week) for an episode of BSG.

Season 3 & 4 of Breaking Bad on the other hand, the writers just came up with a series of threads, characters, and obstacles then set them in motion. Each episode building on the last in a more "organic" fashion I want to say than you typically find in your other great shows from the era. In terms of plotting, it had more in common with season 1 of Vampire Diaries (this is not an insult) than the other big cable dramas. Gilligan managed to meld the pulpy, edge-of-your-seat story telling of a serial with the cerebral/artsy post-Soprano's cable drama.

That is why I think you should stick with it until you get through season 3.

This is what I'm trying to do while I watch it.
It's what I tried to do with The Wire, and The Wire was awesome, I'm so glad y'all got me to watch it.
Breaking Bad is good, but I guess it is tough for it too live up to the praise it gets on here, it isn't as good as The Wire
