It wasn't just about guilt, his love for Thomas and the ideals he strove for is what drove Flint. If he had simply stolen his best friend's girl he wouldn't have become the most feared man in the Caribbean.

Pretty much whatever I write you're going to say "but why did it have to be gay." And the answer is, it didn't HAVE to be, I'm sure they could have come up with another way to make the story, although I suspect you would have to make it much more complicated and contrived and not as good. But whoever wrote Black Sails had this perspective and they wrote a damn good story.

If you could some how reverse the gender roles and accept a bad arse pirate queen as the central figure and the gayness was a type you wouldn't instantly be repulsed by, I think you'd be able to see how the relationships being what they were really made the story. You really get to understand why Flint does what he does. Like I said, the show is pretty deep in the end, especially for a show known more for boobs and blood.

Cmon dude. Are you that naive?

Dont ever research these badass samurai's and roman soldiers you love on tv bc yea they are awesome in action movies but a ton of them were having sex with each other.

If it were more like real life, the dude from the movie 300 would have been having sex with each other instead of their wives.

Hate to break it to you, but its a super safe guess to say there were some bisexual pirates. I dont care enough to know who the actual butt pirates were, but im sure you could find out pretty easy with a quick google search.

Thats whats called making him gay just to make him gay.

I’m Mr. Does Every Disenfranchised Minority Group Have to be Reflected in Pop Culture, but Flint might be the first character I said it makes sense for. I was shocked like everyone when he started kissing Thomas, most likely rolled my eyes, but as the story developed, it made total sense for Flint. Why is he the only guy that doesn’t want to frick Eleanor? Why does he look like he’s being tortured when Miranda is fricking him? Those were minor questions, but being gay explains why he’s so driven, why he hates England so much. The English aristocracy/Thomas’ father took his lover from him, and he thought had him killed. He was as promising a Navy officer as there was, and the military and the government were going to have him cast out/imprisoned just for being gay. He had to escape in the night because England hated him for nothing else than loving a rich man’s son.

but why? I dont give a shite if he was gay or not, but why have gay sex in a show about pirates.

why have sex in any show?

i mean, i'm fine without sex being depicted in film at all. i can't honestly say that a sex scene has made a movie any better other than arouse the carnal desires in us, but it doesn't make the show "better."

there's a higher than 0% of the populace that's gay. are they over represented in film? 100%. but if we're going to have sex in film, it would stand to reason that some of that sex is gay sex?

i'm not advocating it at all or a huge equality guy. i just think that Black Sails showed a gay relationship in a normal fashion as opposed to a "i'm a brave person for being gay." Dude was just gay and still a badass. They portrayed him as a great character well before you had any idea of his sexuality.

Why should it be disqualified from being an aspect of the show?
because there is no reason to other than to be gay.

It's a grounded take on pirates that explores various reasons people were willing to essentially rebel against all world governments. I don't understand why a real aspect of life that could cause a person to feel the way Flint did about the crown should excluded for... why exactly again?

you sound like those pretentious film critics that fawn over movies like Crash and Moonlight.

i dont care for gay shite shoved in my face when im watching a show about pirates. and the show could have been done without it. nothing i have said is wrong. Its cool you like to watch gays on tv, you do you.

im not disagreeing. Im arguing that there really was no reason for it other than to put a gay character on tv. he could have been driven for a multitude of reasons. Thomas could have been Tammy, whom her father betrothed to someone else and then he framed Flint for a crime that he had to run from. plenty of routes that could have been taking, and they chose dudes fricking each other.

You're basically saying that anytime a gay person is in a show that there is no need for it. Thats fine if you feel that way, it's just a wrong opinion The ratio of gay people on TV is much higher than the actual number of straight to gay people and that is super annoying. But this isn't at all the case, it made sense with the character and plot development and didnt take away from the overall story one bit.

I'm like the poster above, I'd be perfectly fine if there weren't sex scenes in movies, especially gay scenes. Had Black Sails done true sex scenes, guy on guy, like they did with the women and men, I would have stopped watching. And I would have probanly stopped if they were just throwing it in there to appease the gay community uproar.

On a similar note, one of the worst arguments in all of film to me is that so many people think that a movie sucks bc it's not rated R. Like Venom for example. People hated it and say one reason it sucked and could have been so much better is bc it wasnt R. Such a b.s. reason. A good story is a good story. Showing some tits, cussing more or have the fight scenes a little more bloody wouldnt have improved the movie at all. The reason the movie wasnt that good was bc the story and bad guy just weren't that good. Plain and simple.
