It was well known they were breaking Immigration laws. The Federal Government figured that out early on...

That scene where the guy snuck the camera in during the orgy blew my mind. That ish is something I figured I'd see at the looney bin.

Where did I say they didn’t?

I’m talking about preventing legal citizens from voting. Which is an interesting political dilhemma

Which action are you referring to?

Mostly the zoning law that prevented the cult from building on their own land and then acting like the victim whenever the cult legally acquired land within the city in response.

That was a county issue. Antelope had no control over an unincorporated area 20 miles away from them. And the city acted like a victim because the cult retaliated against them for county and state issues.

Again the antelope aspect of the story is very small.

You claimed that the cult escalated in response to the town not allowing the rezoning of cult property. I agree, they were a small part of the story, and I think the doc presented them in an overly important role in order to assign them more blame than they deserved.

And if the goal was to present a balanced account of what happened why did they leave out the fact that the hotel bombing was done by an anti-Indian, Pakistani terror group? In the doc they presented that as the catalyst for the cult becoming antagonistic towards the local population.

I liked how they depicted the white “Antelope” people as all poor, country folk but had Jon Bowerman there with his “holy frick I’m rich” grin shining the whole time.

Some of the arguments made in favor of the cult I could understand, but I thought it was pretty clear that the documentary tried to portray the townspeople as closed minded hicks and the cult as "enlightened" people with some bad apples.

Agreed. The documentary did seem to be pretty biased towards the cult. I still feel like I don't know the whole story.

This is an understatement, the show went way out of it's way to make the cult look good.

I thought the locals did it based on the documentary and only found out afterward that it was the Paki's that did it. They didn't clarify that at all and of course one would believe the locals did it. That being said, the cult was easy to hate based on the way it was framed.

Yes. this doc was biased but it exposed this case to me when I had never heard of it. They perhaps should do a followup documentary.

He was just one person and I'm pretty sure he lived closer to the compound than the town of Antelope. The other townspeople in the doc really did play up the "This was a quiet retirement community before they showed up". When in reality, Antelope is a one-horse town in BFE,Oregon.

the attorney for the cult was by far the most annoying person to me;

I'm 99% sure this guy joined up when he heard this was a sex cult, thinking he'd be banging hot, crazy strange left and right, but then he never actually got laid.

The idiot wants to espouse how his lame cult was discriminated against because of the supposed lack of freedom of religion, but fails to see that his cult was violating separation of church and state.

The dude had a girlfriend/wife throughout the majority of the documentary.

The cult had a pay to play plan, they would kick people out who could not pay or would not do other things.

To get into the leadership part of the group cost real money.
