Value network (no clue and never heard of it before) is showing the Hillbillies pilot. Plenty of oil talk. This show was before my time, but a great example of older shows that where awesome!

It is one of the greatest and most original shows ever. But you know, TV shows about a mundane group of friends or about a clique-ish family is what this board loves.

A run-of-the-mill episode in season 2 was the most-watched half hour sitcom in US television history - and still is, some 55 years later.

Sharon Tate was on that show, & it had a great theme song.

The first episode is a good one.

Granny said the oil man wanted to do some wildcatting down by the slough. "I said help yourself. We're glad to get rid of the critters."

The oil man tells Jed that his swamp is full of oil and his company would like to pump it out. Jed says he would like to pump it out too, but he can't afford to.

Jed tells cousin Pearl that the oil company is paying him to 25 to 100 for his swamp, depending on how much oil is in it. He said they were paying him with a new kind of dollar, million dollars.

Show was way before my time, but man it was funny.
Billyard room with all the billyards mounted
Fancy pot passers
Cement pond
Granny smoking crawdads.
The doorbell ringing

So much greatness

Just learned Donna Douglas is a Louisiana girl. Pride, LA to be exact. Wonder if any posters on here had older relatives that knew of Elly May.

She just died a couple of years ago. It wasn’t unusual to see her around the Baton Rouge area.

Kind of an underrated babe from her era.

I don't recall ever hearing her in an interview. How close was her natural accent to the Elly May character?

Indeed. I remember being disappointed by Jethro’s interpretation of the topless waitress craze. I was like, for once in your life, can you not be a complete moron?
