Not to mention the very real German resistance.

Haven't seen Fury but as gruesome as HR can be at times, I would re-watch it again simply because I'm amazed at this Dodd guy. After reading the actual story behind his Medal of Honor and what went down at Okinawa (and elsewhere before and after the battle), I'm not sure Hollywood is capable of embellishing his story. That guy is amazing!

Why do you assume every German fighting for Germany was the worst human being ever? Is it that hard to believe that maybe they had young guys fighting for them that didn't really want to, just like how the kid hiding under the tank was when he first started?

I just find it extremely hard to believe that any member of an elite SS unit that just watched their entire unit get inexplicably mowed down by a broken down tank is just going to let one of the guys responsible walk away.

Not saying the Germans would've have killed him on the spot, but not to at least take him as prisoner -- that's a big stretch.

If anything, the idea that one of the SS soldiers was incapable of feeling frustration during the whole ordeal, and not taking it out on the kid, is what I couldn't get past.

So was the main character kid incapable of feeling frustration that some random German just blew up a tank, while he watched US men burn alive crawling out the tank, one shooting himself while on fire, but he couldn't let his frustration out on the German that did this and shoot him? Was that part just beyond ridiculous as well?

I get the point you're making, and they probably could have handled the ending a bit differently, but the point of the scene, in conjunction with the one I mentioned above, was to show that there were kids on both sides of the war that were scared shitless when they first started, and weren't ready to kill people.

I enjoyed Fury much more. HR just felt so hokey...the good ole boy nature of Doss aside.
