This is true. But also, sometimes things just objectively decline in quality.

If you're a fan, and I asked you to name iconic skits or characters from the 80s or 90s you could rattle off a shite load. Ask to name some iconic character since 2010 and what do you get?

Since SNL started they have one great skit, 1-2 good skits and the rest are terrible.

Your individual episodes are meh, but the highlight shows are gold.

I'm not arguing there aren't some good characters. I'm just saying that overall the show is currently in a lul. It's had its peaks and valleys over the years, currently it's in a valley.

Bobby Moynihan, Keenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon are L great.

Go watch some Riblett skits. If you gave Bobby the update desk I think he'd be great. Jost and Che are an insult to that running sketch

I agree that the show has been in kind of a lull but I think this season is making good strides. Last year was pretty rough but I've enjoyed almost every episode this season (although I thought the Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't that great).

As some people have already said, SNL always has dud sketches. People just remember the really good ones.

Stephan
Black Jeapordy
David S Pumpkins
Californians
Bein' Quirky with Zooey Deschanel
Barry Gibbs Talk Show
Kate McKinnon as Bieber
Maine Justice
Halloween Amusement Park Ride with Robots
Olya Povlatsky
Movie Set (with Keenan as director) LINK

I can go on.

But you'll just say

Even though you said

I thought Chapelle was the absolute perfect host for the weekend after the election, especially given the result. He walks the racial line perfectly and takes jabs at both sides. His opening monologue was one of the best I've ever seen on on SNL.

5 of the characters you named are from actors that aren't on the show anymore and Barry Gibbs is a Fallon sketch from 2002.

Do you really think SNL is at an all time peak relative to its history or are you arguing just for the sake of arguing?

I agree it had some good characters, and currently it has 3 very good cast members, and Chapelle was great, but still the show it in a but of a lull right now.

You asked for characters from the 2010's,not ones that are currently part of the cast or that originated in the 2010s.

I never claimed SNL is at it's all time peak now. That's incredibly hard to argue, but I thoroughly enjoyed 2010-2014 as much or more than anything from the mid 90s, which was also great.

You did say since 2010...

But I respect your opinion. It's clear that you do actually watch the show. I get annoyed when people say the show is terrible now and never really watched SNL to begin with.

I like a lot of the current cast members. The three you mentioned are obviously at the top. I also like Cecily, Beck, Kyle, Aidy, and Vanessa. I think Mikey Day is a great addition and the other new dude seems funny too.

The weak points are Pete and Leslie in my opinion. I like Sasheer but they've never seemed to figure out how to use her.

I don't understand what goes on behind the scenes at SNL, but every time she's in a sketch she delivers her lines well and is funny and performs well and yet she's never front and center in anything.

Robbie Moynihan is severely underused on SNL, in general, but Drunk Uncle is a top 10 all-time SNL character and he only does maybe 1 appearance a season.

Really? This week's was the first I've seen in a couple years. Just haven't made a point to watch like I used to, but back then I seem to remember Moynihan being on all the time. I was surprised that I don't remember him on this weeks at all

She turned to the camera with tears in her eyes and said, “I’m not giving up and neither should you.”

I could swear the writers were changed up a season or 2 ago. The quality of the sketches seems to have gone up while the quality of the acting is torpedoing. I can't do Bayer. She can't do anything funny without that annoying goofy smile. the decision to not pick up Killam's contract this year shows how out of touch they can be at times.

I don't mind Bayer, but I agree about Killam. He was the star of the cast and it seems dumb to let him go.

Horrible cold open. Was that supposed to be the eulogy to Hillary's campaign?
