And I always say, The Thing is about as close to a perfect film experience as you can get. Not meaning that is the best ever, just that it comes the closest to doing exactly what it intends to do

You got my vote on that. That movie, along with Alien and Aliens, are what I consider the pinnacle of sci-fi/horror/suspense/action movies.

(sorry I left off "Big Trouble"...I was trying not to list every movie Carpenter ever made )

Totally worth it to do that, Luke may not be the only one who hasn't seen all of Carpenter's great work.

I think the "best" movie I've ever seen is probably "M" (German version). Many of the classics (Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane, Rear Window, The Godfather, Sunset Boulevard, Cool Hand Luke, etc) are fricking incredible though

my favorite movie to watch is most certainly Fight Club, followed by Goodfellas

It feels weird to make a distinction between "my favorite" and "the best," but I'm making it anyways

Not weird at all, that's always how I look at it.

Did you grow up in my house?

Throw in some Gordon Lightfoot and Dan Fogelberg and you've got my mother's album collection.

And the BeeGees, and all of their f-ing solo work. I was really devoid of any taste in music for half of my life.

I'll give you that, but still, their record collection was awful, so the few standout songs I might have heard were overrun with the crap.

Mom actually had a couple of Barry White albums, so there's your outlier. Dad was all about old country...Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Tennessee Ernie Ford. All in all, a pretty crappy music selection around my house.

(and I kinda like some old Bee Gees...thanks Mom)
