I forgot about Raging Bull. Also, Michael Caine's first acting role was Zula and was outstanding. Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke was perfect as he was in Hud and The Hustler. The guy was just really smooth and natural in just about everything. Burt Lancaster in Atlantic City. Clint Eastwood in TGTBATU or maybe Thunderbolt And Lightfoot, which is my favorite underrated movie of all time. Orson Wells in A Touch Of Evil. Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet.

I think I've been suffering from Tom Hanks fatigue for about a decade now.

Since Saving Private Ryan came out in 1998 I'm wondering what Hanks movie from 99-08 burned you out on him?

As I think I stated ... it's just burnout. Too much Tom Hanks for me and his schtick got old jn my eyes. I can't remember the last movie I saw of his ... I guess it was either Saving Private Ryan, which I loved, or it was the one where he was robbing a casino in or around the Gulf somewhere. Maybe that one was it. I have not seen the one about him being the congressman who raised money for arms ... supposed to be based on a true story I think. Have not seen the one about him being the Captain of a cargo ship that was hijacked. Have not seen the one about Sully. Refuse to see The Post. Heard Cloud Atlas was horrible. Not going to watch the one about Walt Disney. Oh, I have watched Polar Express and the first Toy Story. I did watch, and like, Catch Me If You Can about Frank Abegnal. I did see one of his movies based on the Divinci Code ... Robert Langdon character, but I've watched none of the sequels.

I'm just burnt out on Tom Hanks. Could care less if I never see another one of his movies or hear his voice again. Just MHO.

One of my personal favorite supporting performances was Jeremy Renner as Mayor Carmine Polito in American Hustle. He was such a sympathetic character. Not saying it’s a GOAT performance, just one I really appreciated.

I'll go best male and female leads in the same movie and say Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn in On Golden Pond

That was a masterclass by two legends

One of my favorites. Very deservingly in the conversation. to Norman, the first grumpy old man.

PSH in Capote and Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler were the first 2 male leads I thought of. And although Lincoln was boring as hell I was mesmerized by DDL's performance, not a fun character like the Butcher or Plainview, but to take such a well known historical character and bring him to life the way he did was almost surreal to watch. Hillary Swank's performance in Boys Don't Cry was as good as anything I've ever seen. A transexual hermaphrodite who was also a white trash redneck, and she nailed all of it.

18 years is a short stretch?

Yep for the "modern" era .... for the golden age of the silver screen....that would be really tough.

Bogie and McCall
Tracy and Hepburn
Betty Davis
Barbara Stanwick

So many greats in so many great movies.

That's what I thought the thread was.

That would be more interesting IMO.
