Gary Oldman gets plenty of recognition

Gary Oldman gets recognition now due to the success of The Dark Knight Trilogy. Before the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, very few casual movie fans even knew Gary Oldman existed.

Best character ever. Sometimes I will pop in the dvd and only watch the Buford T. Justice scenes.

You know, I agree. The topic is recognition, not awards, and Gary Oldman is clearly in god tier when it comes to people to pay attention to entertainment.

His role in California Suite might qualify for this list, too.

Top 10

I think Oldman is a good choice if you think back before Batman films. Some others on this list I agree with too.

uh no dude. Oldman has been in numerous great movies since the 80s. The Professional, True Romance, Dracula, JFK just to name a few in the 90s. He was a well respected actor well before Batman.

I know he got a lot of praise for it, but Don Cheadle in "Hotel Rwanda" was pretty forgotten about due to Jamie Foxx's incredible performance in "Ray."

Don Cheadle

Another guy that just quietly shows up and delivers great performances. I bet him and JK Simmons are the best actors, dollar for dollar, in history.

Cheadle, particularly, seems to be good at script selection - he was in Traffic, Crash, as well as Boogie Nights and Rosewood. Hotel Rwanda is going to be what he's remembered for, but a damn fine actor.
