I think it was really well played but the best game ever played in my opinion was Season 29. Without giving any spoilers, the last five episodes or so are the most underrated player moves ever. It's chess vs checkers for one of those players at the end.

As far as seasons go though, I still liked 26 more than 29.

I haven't seen it but isn't Season 29 consistently voted one of the worst seasons of the show?

I'm not sure. I don't even remember much of the season other than John Rocker and the moves that were made at the end. My favorite season is still 26 I think.

I don't really like the newer seasons as much. There's too much emphasis on idols and advantages. I like the older seasons more. I've seen 1-3, 8, 11-40.

Overall, season 29 was pretty bad. It's not worth watching the whole season, but I agree the end game moves by one person were pretty good.

Please man , OP asked multiple times for no spoilers. It’s even in the subject line.

Please do this guy a solid and edit your posts and take the spoilers and winners out. Damn man, smh.

I know its old, but if you want to see true "Survivor"...season 2 (my #1) is brutal conditions and it was back when they gave them nothing. They were basically in the Australian desert with nothing but some rice. Not sure if its still true but at one time it was the season where players lost the most weight.

Season 1 was so special when it came out. I was senior year in HS. We had watch party each week. I’d be interested to rewatch. It was almost more about survival than game especially at first. But game became big in 2nd half for sure IIRC.

Season 3 was my other favorite. That was seemed more brutal than Australia season 2. They were pulling water from nasty animal watering hole and having to boil it. Plus the lions that would gather around their camp and the thorny retaining wall at night.

There’s a lot I don’t remember. It’s been a looooooong time. I’d be interested to rewatch those soon.

Between the ones you mentioned (16/31/40/33/37) what order would you rank them for someone to watch considering 20 and 28 will be the only seasons I've seen prior? Also on the topic of all star seasons 16/31 do you think I'm "hurt" a little (for lack of a better word) by not having watching a ton of prior seasons to know the background on the people?

I would just say 40 (Winners At War) last.

I don't think you hurt yourself too much by watching returning players without seeing their initial seasons.

I really started watching Survivor again at Worlds Apart, season 30, after watching the first two seasons way back in the day. I watched 31 (Second Chance), and 34 (Game Changers) without having seen most of their initial seasons and it didn't bother me at all.

I eventually went back and watched them all while I was laid up after knee reconstruction, and I don't think it hurt me to watch the earlier ones later than the newer ones either.

I enjoy season 3 a lot as well. Hard not to like Big Tom

Season 3 was without a doubt the most brutal conditions.

Big Tom lost 80 pounds. That's still a Survivor record years later.

There are only 2 seasons that I did not enjoy(season 39 and season 5), so I don't think you can go wrong with any of the rest if you enjoy the game. If you have already watched 20 and 28, I don't know if that would ruin the older seasons. I watched 20 first and then went back and watched in order. I liked seeing the evolution of the game as it played out. From the eras I would recommend:

1-10:
Season 6 - Has the charm of the older seasons while seeing a progression in strategic play.

Season 7 - Probably my favorite new player cast besides Cagayan(28).

Season 8 - cut throat would be putting it mildly.

Season 10 - One of my favorite winners.

11-20:

Season 15: Good gameplay with a great winner

Season 16: Parvati is in this one. She is my favorite player to play. Doesn't hurt that she went to UGA. This season, in my opinion, epitomizes the type of strategy found in survivor pre-cagayan.

21-30

Season 25: Great overall season due to the cast.

Season 27: Interesting concept with a mix of returnees and new players.

Note: Season 21 is an absolute dumpster fire, but in a way that is somehow entertaining, unlike Season 39.

31-40:

Season 31: One of my absolute favorites. It is a returnee season and would probably be more enjoyable if you watched the previous seasons. Season 28 signaled a shift in strategy that was more widely adopted in Season 31. Most of the seasons that come after favor the strategy found in season 31.

Season 33: Has a good cast with good gameplay that has a mix of old school strategy (strong alliance vs strong alliance) with new school(every man for himself).

Season 37: Similar to 33.

Season 40: Great season, however, it is all winners and you would probably enjoy it more having watched previous seasons.

FYI to anyone interested, HULU has a lot of the seasons and CBS All Access for like $5 a month has all of the seasons i believe.

I disagree with not going back. Early seasons they had to work for food and fire. They lost tons of weight. They had multiple challenges instead of 1 challenge on a big obstacle course we. Season 1-3 are definitely worth a watch.

Yeah Seasons 2 and 3 were the most brutal two seasons and i think things started changing after that. Back then when they gave you something they would take something else.

I don't think 29 is bad, but it's not great either. There were a few great personalities at least that made later appearances.

A "bad" season of Survivor is still pretty good tv IMO

Season 10 - One of my favorite winners.

One of the most dominant winners that I can remember, I wish they have come back for Season 40.

I think Cook Islands (13), and Toncatins (18) are absolutely worth a watch. As is Samoa (19) because it birthed the all-time Survivor villain.

I just responded to the most recent post. You actually asked people to quit with the spoilers and I was just echoing it.

Several posts listed winners and other major spoilers. If they get edit it out in timely fashion, OP likely won’t ever remember them down the line.

Season 34 - Gamechangers - would be my top choice of those.

33 had its moments, but the winner was meh.

32 is a decent season as well, but another meh winner. Lot of good characters that season though.
