39 is probably (definitely) the worst season ever, and no one has returned (yet) so skip it unless you just have to watch them all.
The rest of those are all good to great seasons.

Micronesia: Fans vs. Favorites (season 16), Cambodia: Second Chance (season 31), and Winners at War (season 40) are some of the best, but all feature returning players.
Millenials vs. Gen X (33) and David vs. Goliath (37) are two of the better recent seasons with all new players.
I’d agree with all of these - I’d hold off on 40 though (maybe even 31) until you watch more. Having seen at least some of the players play (and win) before, Winners at War was a really surreal experinence to see some all time greats together.
You’re spot on with 28, that’s actually the one I would recommend to a first time viewer. Great gameplay, several legendary players, and a great winner.
Aside from the ones from LSUBoo, I also throw out some older seasons which still hold up - the game has changed a ton over the years but some of these are really fun. The earliest ones are very raw, with the survival aspect being a much bigger part of the game that today so they’re engaging in a different way imo.
Pearl Islands (season 7)
Palau (season 10)
Cook Islands (season 13)
China (season 15)
Philippines (season 25)
Samoa is the origin of Russell and really a turning point in the style of play. Say what you will about his villainy and people skills, the dude is a master strategist and was ahead of the curve. I think of Tony (probably my all time favorite) as an evolved version of Russell.

winner doesn't get much love because he has refused to come back multiple times but from the merge on he had a target on his back and put in the one of the gutsiest performance ive ever seen to get to the end. One of my favorite winners.

I'm trying to only skim at this point becuase a few people have posted spoilers but after I'm done with 28 I think I'm gonna do 16, then after that one of the ones in teh 30s, can't remember specifically offhand which one I picked but it's one that's been mentioned a few times so far. I'm going to save 40 for later since that seems to be one fo the consensus best seasons, give me somethign to look forward to.
This MAY be a small season 28 spoiler, so just a heads up for htose in my boat that may not have seen it...
My LORD J'tia is the worst player I could imagine. THankfully she didn't last too long but I was stunned at how bad she was. There are some people, as in most reality games I imagine, every year all the time that will coast and not really DO much of anything. Not so with J'tia. She wasn't just floating around chilling out on the outskirts. She actually was participating regularly but was just so horrendously bad at EVERYTHING. I was so glad when she got booted.

Season 36 Ghost Island
Best Gameplay Top 5:
Season 40: Winners at War

Seasons 15-40 are so much deeper and better gameplay compared to seasons 1-15.

Im 10 episodes into season 29 and I'm not getting the hate, I am enjoying it, its not a goat season or anything but im not finding it terrible or anything.

I thought 29 was a good season. It's not top tier, but probably second tier.

Yeah I've never really read other people's rankings before but was a little surprised that 29 was one of the most hated. I didn't remember it being that bad. Like I was saying I thought the end was worth the wait.
Season 24 is the one the I've always hated the most.

I started watching s1 for the first time on 7/5 and im going to finish season 40 next week. I'm obsessed with this show.
If you enjoyed HvV then i'd also recommend s16 Micronesia, S18 Tocantins, S13 Cook Islands, S27 Blood vs Water, S31 Cambodia (this is a returnee season tho so some of it may not make sense), S33 Millenials vs Gen X, and S37 David vs Goliath

Definitely watch Micronesia, Redemption Island (it's a weak cast but it's the most dominate winning performance ever and its not close IMO), S29 Blood vs Water 2 is also a "big moves" season especially post merge.

quote:Redemption Island (s22) is the best game ever played by a winner but the season as a whole is so-so. Worth it to watch though. S26 Caramoan (the season mentioned above)is an enjoyable post merge season and has a very satisfying winner.
Cochrane's second season was the best game ever played to date
What season is that and do you agree with that sentiment?

Without giving any spoilers, the last five episodes or so are the most underrated player moves ever. It's chess vs checkers for one of those players at the end.
Hard agree. Plus s29 has Keith Nail and that is worth a lot. "I say stick to the plan! ahahahaah!"

I originally told myself I don't have near enough time to binge watch multiple seasons of this but after reading this thread I may just have to lol

33 Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X
34 Survivor: Game Changers
35 Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers
32 Survivor: Kaôh Rong
30 Survivor: Worlds Apart
38 Survivor: Edge of Extinction
29 Survivor: San Juan del Sur
39 Survivor: Island of the Idols
to those who have seen these which should i start with?

At least it had Chelsea for some good eye candy.
Colton is easily one of the worst people to ever be on the show, though, and the winner was about as predictable as they get.

Just finished 28 cagayan, my second season. S28 SPOILERS below..
Another enjoyable season. Not as good as 20 but still good. Ive mentioned big brother before bc it's my only frame of reference but man it's so nice to see juries vote for gameplay. In big brother the jury is always bitter as frick and just votes for who they like the best. In 28 people seemed to despise tony and were practically ready to fight at final council yet he won in a landslide! And he by far played the best game pretty much start to finish. It was actually dominant. Also I loved woo lol. Seems like a cool dude irl. I was really pulling for spencer too he seems like just a regular nerdy down to earth guy and he just kept hanging in there. The eye candy this year was excellent again, I'm noticing that theme so far and I'm loving it.
In this season the final came down to 2 people instead of 3...when did they change that and why?
Also in this season there was a "special idol" that can be played after votes are read. It didn't get used but cool idea. From here on out, without specifics or spoilers, are there more "special idols" each year?
