Beauty and the Beast won the Oscar for best picture... I'm liking those odds. Not to mention, you already have a built in animal looking vs. human looking dynamic.

yea it's the dark horse for sure...
on that note, Black Beauty is getting 11:1

You think people will get tired of Avatar or will the films be as successful as the first film?
4 films? How much of a story does he have to tell?
I thought it was over?

What Disney movie did they rip off the first time?

Pocohontas
In Pocohontas' defense, it at least had character development, dialogue that wouldn't offend remedial fourth grade students, and some sense of subtleness.

OK, so I'm currently reading "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi. In it, old people are recruited to fight wars in space. Their consciousness is transferred into new bodies via a process similar to the avatars, except they don't ever go back to their old bodies.
Scalzi's Hugo Award nominated novel was published in 2005.
Cameron started work on Avatar in 2006.
Just one more piece of AvatarHater ammo for you...

Yep, I can't imagine paying to see another Pochantus ripoff, much less three or four.
Ive actually read some good info as to this theory. Some pretty convincing stuff to I might add
Yeah, because that theme had NEVER been used before Pochahontas or Dancing with Wolves or any other movie that people like to cite.
The problem isn't that it's a theme that's been replayed many times. Hell, MOST movies are like that.
The problem is poor quality of the script and acting.

The guy at WETA in New Zealand told me they had hired a bunch of new people due to all the avatar movies that Cameron was going to make. Cameron just moved over there earlier this year and I think he's got his citizenship now. Apparently has a farm right by Peter Jackson outside of Wellington. Pretty damn cool town.

I mean I liked the first one but that's a little much.
No it didn't. No cartoon has ever won Best Picture. It was, however, the first cartoon to be nominated for it.

I turned the lights off and made sure my door was closed.

I can't link it but I know I heard/read somewhere that in the future Cameron will try to use a story where they are sailors, travelling on water basically.

ahhh fuuuuuk james cameron seriously. The first one was an obvious moneygrab and I am ashamed of myself for having taken part.

I think the story is more Ferngully than Pocohontas.
Either way I dig Avatar would be interested in the sequels.

Posted on 7/5/12 at 11:31 am to Skadouche
yes, and they are similar, but i see a direct correlation with pocahontas and only a symbolic correlarion with ferngully
