I have heard book 4 and 5 are really boring. I loved books 2 and 3. Should I try to jump into book 4 now or go read something else and come back to it? My brother and several of my friends have recommended "The Hunger Games".

I loved book 5 the only two I put above it is GOT and SOS. Feast For Crows is far from a bad book its just not as good as the other four.

Hunger Games is nowhere near as good as ASOIAF, however, you can read all 3 in a week easily. So it doesnt matter much.

Yeah, even though AFFC isn't close to the quality of ASOS or the first two, it's still much better than any Hunger Games book. But Hunger Games is a very fast read if you want something to put in the middle.

Though if you want a break from ASOIAF and read something really good I'd read Scott Lynch's Lies of Lock Lamora.

All 5 books are very good, the latter two just aren't as good as the first three.

I would say avoid other books. Reading something else then going back to Martin's work is going to be difficult. The constant "I am traveling... this is what I am doing..... oh my god what is TH-- <end of chapter, we won't see this character for 10 more chapters>" is hard to read after going to a normal 1 POV book.

It's not boring, the plot just doesn't advance very fast in AFFC and ADFD. Mainly because much of the two books occur at the same time. But there is some really interesting reading to be had in both books. Particularly with Tyrion.

Those of us who waited years for AFFC were frustrated by the lack of progress in the bigger story arc. That doesn't make it a bad book, just not all that we wanted it to be.

I don't know how anyone could go straight from reading ASOIAF to reading the Hunger Games.

I'm doing it now, and my God, does it fly by. It is just so simplified in comparison. She does not describe every branch in detail.

Rhaegar was distracted by the horns on Roberts helmet FWIW. Given a rematch he would smash his arse.

I agree. Maybe Rhaegar was still distracted from stealing Robert's bitch?
