I had put off this movie until recently, no particular reason why. Now I’ve seen it three times the past week.

Everything about it resonates with me. I always knew Mel Gibson mixed human interest with violence as well as anyone in the game. This movie is further proof of that.

Haunting soundtrack throughout, realistic violence, the mystery of the jungle added to it all, and I love the fact it wasn’t in English. The subtitles put me in the time and place.

Anyone else feel moved by this film?

The spiritual/psychological aspects of it really took it next level.

Dude… how frickin’ rad was that scene?

The actor that gave Jaguar Paw the name “Almost” gave me Magua vibes… cold blooded…

I had always heard it was not too good. I bought it when it first came out on DVD but then started hearing all kinds of bad things about it so I never got around to watching it.

Looks like I may need to give it a shot based on this thread.

Crash won best picture the year Apocalypto came out. Gibson was snubbed in most categories, only nominated for makeup, sound editing and mixing.

Get on it, man. I waited until I was alone and could focus on everything they’re saying in the subtitles. There is a ton of foreshadowing in the first few scenes that very subtly hints at what’s to come.

I don't know who you heard that from. I was in college when it came out on DVD. It was watched a lot, it was pretty popular

It came out right after I graduated, and I was at a house party a little later when they had it on and it was about to the end. I made myself not watch the end because I could tell it was badass. Glad I finally got around to it. Firmly in my top 10 now.

Because the pitch for this movie is half a sentence.

Synopsis and taglines had to be so vague as to not spoil the movie.

I love the movie..but there's zero plot...

...Just setting, style and a historical narrative that gets the timeline wrong in every aspect.

It's an unrelenting chase movie. Its Mad Max: Fury Road on foot.

Like Taken and Mad Max, its mindless action, therefore highly rewatchable when you don't have the time to pay attention.

...just styled up in a period piece to make it seem its more than it really is.

Which is a well made, exciting but very simple chase movie.

You could say the same about Shawshank Redemption

Most classics are uncomplicated. In any medium.

Simple concept executed really well is the best.

dude sees his people killed, takes on invaders against all odds. Another Rambo, etc.

Just another action movie.

The part where she gives birth while flooding, I laughed my arse off it was so stupid.

I thought it was good also even though its pretty dark at times, and pretty intense. Definitely rewatchable

I disagree here. It is a chase movie for a lot of it, but there is nuance to some scenes that forces me to think about life and family and what the meaning of life really is.

Not me. I laughed my arse off when Eastwood used a fake baby.

Which Rambo are you comparing it to?

Not really.

It’s badass and great rewatch ability. Couldn’t find it anywhere for a while and finally got it off Amazon during 2020 I think. I remember seeing this and the Prestige within a month or two of one another in the theater. 2006 was great for movies.
