I have some friends who said it was really bad, and they’re people whose opinion on films I hold in high regard.

It’s not for everyone.

But anyone who says that film is BAD is someone whose film opinion needs to be ignored.

It not a movie for those that are not "critical thinkers"

How true is it to the book? Or books? Do they cram the entire trilogy into one film?

Haven’t read them, but I’ve heard it’s very loosely based on first book

Not really at all. Different number of characters. The characters get personalities/names/etc. The ending is different.

It’s more of an artistic interpretation of the books than a filming of the books events.

It is a self contained story, with some small opening for sequels, of which the director said he wants no part of in the unlikely event it gets approved.

Yeah, I don't know how you would even adapt the source material. Some of the things that made the book so great are things you generally hate in the movie.

Not much. Annihilation is by far the best of the trilogy, IMO. It's really, really good. The movie was bad; just didn't work for me. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading the book when it first came out.

Cool, now we know you didnt pay attention at all to the imagery, dialogue, and theme of the entire movie. Remember the opening imagery of cancer cells, the constant talk of the shimmer acting like cancer cells, people degrading and having their genes manipulated like cancer cells, the shimmer acting like cancer? Still not getting it?

Annihilation is a science fiction master piece, both visually and story telling.
