It was great. I didn't realize he had such a hard life, but of course he did. I can't imagine what he went through.

When De Niro talks about Andre the giant stacking 5 playmates on top each other and finger fricking them all simultaneously

That's not even close to some accusations I've heard. Up to 156.
Boss Hogg drank way more than that on a plane flight and then still played great in his next game.

The ending was pretty sad. Can’t believe Vince showed some humanity there.

I can see why a hard core fan would be turned off by this
It's a well done doc and I enjoyed it but I didn't really learn a whole lot. But maybe that's more on me and my expectations and not a critique of the actual work.
Andre was a great guy and as a fan I'm just glad and hopeful that nonfans get to learn that as well.

Also, Hogan and Shane McMahon tell blatant lies
I thought Hogan was totally full of it....as usual

as Baloo said, this was a doc for non-wrestling fans. I have never heard of the A&E Doc on Andre.
Simmons interviewed the director, Jason Hehir, this week and there are some notes from it:
They purposely chose not to use a narrator because they wanted the doc to narrate itself. They felt like using a narrator is a crutch and unnecessary
They had to soften up some of it because it was made for an HBO global audience to have broad appeal.
They had to be aware of the message and focus from the McMahon perspective to get him to participate in such a genuine and heart felt way.
There will be extras with the stuff that was cut that goes into further details and debunks more of the mythology like the Samuel Beckett story.
Some of the most interesting principal characters are dead (like Andre himself, Bobby Heenan, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, etc) to propel the story
Some of them are simply not compelling (Pat Patterson) or too self serving (Shane McMahon) and didnt belong. The people they got that contributed the most really made a difference (Tim White, Vince, Hulk, Flair, the Roussimoff Family).
There were some obvious huge gaps, but overall I think it was well done and I enjoyed it.

Finally watched it last night and really enjoyed it. It was a lot sadder than I expected it to be though. Like when he was telling his handler that he'd love to be regular sized for a weekend. And how some people would laugh and mock him. It made me really feel bad for the guy. It really showed how difficult things were for him.

This was a huge swing and a miss for me. In a documentary I need to learn interesting new things about people or events. I didn't get that with Andre. Other than a brief piece on the princess bride stuff and the rouasimoff family there wasn't much interesting or compelling.
Hogan and McMahon and all of the WWE crew should be taken with a heaping helping of salt and anyone who ever followed wrestling knows that. I don't believe them.
Would have loved more depth on his. Upbringing. The medical Issues. Friendships outside wrestling. His daughter.

I thought his story about Andre saying SLAM at Wrestlemania was likely BS as well as him claiming Andre and him were boys. I bet Andre probably thought of Hogan similarly to Macho Man

I enjoyed the heck out of it. They featured a lot of Hogan though

Just watched it, thanks for the headsup

I liked it but I saw the other one and it was more impactful for me except for one part.
when Andre’s brother showed the chair their mom made for Andre... I immediately felt so bad for him and his mom. Something so simple as a chair for that man was a litteral pain in the arse (and back).
The man was truly large than life and it had to suck for him.

Which is surprising because Simmons always hated Hogan.
But they're both self-serving so maybe they found a kinship.
