Tony Stark vs his COO to be able to continue to sell weapons to terrorists in a small region of the world.

Man have things grown from there.

The best example of ridiculously increased stakes is going from stealing DVD players off of semis in The Fast and the Furious to flying a car into space and fighting a Soviet-era nuclear submarine with cars.

I never really bought into why he wanted Tony dead in the first place.

Which one is that? I have zero interest in the FATF franchise but with a description like that I may have no choice but to watch this one

I believe the submarine was 8 and the space adventure was 9.

I remember someone possibly kicking a torpedo on the ice? "Forcing" it to alter its course and target?

It made Slim Pickins' bomb-ride in Dr. Strangelove seem extremely realistic and poignant.

Tony was going to shut down the weapons division AND keep Iron Man tech for himself.

But he had already hired the Afghanis to kill him. He created Iron Man out of necessity and had a change of heart about weapons production while in captivity.

Obadiah was running the black market weapons sales under the table. Selling to both sides as it were, and didn’t want Tony to find out. Because those weapons were killing American soldiers.

I had a friend who loved those FAF movies, when I saw that runway scene I laughed and joked about it so much I think I ruined them for him.
