What a terrible movie.

I completely understand the change in setting, but the movie completely screwed up his character.

Same with Stan Hurley.

Also, I’m not a fan of adding the ex-CIA mercenary as the villain.

Just all around awful movie.

Yeah just wasn’t an enjoyable watch. I’m not gonna pretend that American Assassin is some sacred source material that should never be altered, but they did cut some of the coolest parts of the book and didn’t replace them with anything that special.

The whole general vibe of the movie was just kind of off.

It was terrible

And it's used to support the idea that this type of franchise (based on ultra-popular authors) doesn't work, so let's make another comic book movie or remake something made 8 years ago.

They just altered his character completely.

Made him into this whiny pussy who just goes off half-cocked and was a terrible spy.

I also wish they would have left the scene in where he asks Irene “why are you following me” when she meets him for the first time.

Was an awesome scene in the book.

Read many of the Mitch Rapp series. Have no desire to see any movies based on them.

agree - the books are so enjoyable there is no way to cinematically capture that story telling

Hell, look what they did to Jack Reacher. Tom Cruise definitely doesn't fit the description, at all.

They should have never made Olympus Has Fallen, and instead pulled Gerard Butler in to play Rapp and have the first movie like Olympus, but based on the book where Rapp met his wife when saving the WH.

Instead, they gave us..... well, crap.

The book was way better than the movie. I do think however that they casted Mitch and Stan perfectly. The problem lies with the writing and directing.

I was bored to tears five minutes in and turned it off.

Not good for an action movie.

I also like the casting. I even liked Irene though I’m pretty sure she was written as white I always pictured Condi Rice. The Rapp series hasn’t been as good since Vince Flynn died. I don’t think the new guy really understands Mitch. I didn’t hate the movie but it didn’t feel right.

It’s been a while since I’ve read any of the books but isn’t Rapp an older much larger guy?

No.

In the origin story, he is a Syracuse student who plays lacrosse.

It was while he was at Syracuse that his GF, Maureen, was killed in a terrorist bombing.

I didn't know it was a book. But I liked the movie. It had some really good parts. The bomb at the end was really cool..

Read the book.

It is INFINITELY better.

Mitch Rapp in the book makes the movie version look like Maxwell Smart.

I always hoped to see Protect and Defend made into a movie. That story had a Man on Fire / Taken motif.
