Amazon Prime sci-fi shows are basically the same.

They all follow the same generic template.
Cool Sci-fi thingy gets overshadowed by boring and overly dramatic personal dramas of little people whose lives are insignificant to the bigger picture.
#ChangeMyMind
Outer Range
Tales from the Loop
Undone
The Expanse
Night Sky
Now, it's not all to the same degrees, and by no means are all these shows bad. Most of them I like. The Expanse, for the first 3-4 seasons, is as good Sci-fi as you'll find - ANYWHERE. Then sadly, the TV version goes sideways from the books, and it doesn't end well. (RIP Alex Kamal)
But whether it's a cool time travel hole in the ground, proto-molecule, or some super advanced alien transporter rooms buried underground, none of these things should take a back seat to goofy personal matters when far more pressing things are at hand.

was having this exact conversation with my brother recently, and its not just sci-fi either, its like the writers / producers go out of their way to get you hooked and then BAM , surprise the show is now 75% soap opera grade interpersonal relationship examining drama - who cares that the world is ending we need to discuss our feelings

Nerdrotic noticed this a few years ago. He referred to it as " talking in hallways about feelings " and back then it was mainly a CW staple. I think back when Supergirl was starting out?
Guess the trend has spread, sadly.

Was thinking that we are really lacking good sci-fi also once I saw Raised by wolves cancelled.

Tales from the Loop is actually good. It was mean to be small stories based on the anthology setup
Outer Range is boring. Agreed on that

I wanted to really like Tales from the Loop. I did. I mean, c'mon...Rebecca Hall! But it was all boring and depressing. There were flashes, yet just when I thought it was kick in and get interesting, things just went back to gray.
Sorta identical to Outer Range. Those two shows I see as very similar in tone.

Tales from the Loop was a perfect anthology with interesting characters and a plot that intertwined all of their histories and stories into a nice little concise program. One of the best series I've seen in years. Will always trumpet it's existence. It's a shame more people did not watch and comment in our meager thread. It's still out there if folks would like to give it a try.

I thought Electric Dreams was pretty good

The Expanse is based on a great book series that they unfortunately Hollywooded. Why can't they just put the books onto film without changing storylines and character motivations?

Thanks. Need to check that out.
* Are you talking about the movie from the 80s?

I just tried to watch episode 7 of Night Sky. Holy shite this show got brutally bad fast. There's nothing to even debate here; it's just bad. Can't imagine this shite getting renewed, but it probably already happened.

I'd say the walking dead set the bar for this. A show named for Zombies, yet multiple episodes would pass without even seeing one.
